THE THREE SISTERS

By Anton Chekhov
Translated by Paul Schmidt
Directed by Martha Johnson

November 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 at 7 p.m.
November 8 and 15 at 3 p.m.

One of Chekhov’s most beloved plays, The Three Sisters portrays the young Prozorov sisters, who struggle to find meaning and happiness in their lives as they come of age in an ugly provincial town far from their beloved Moscow. As described by Maurice Valency, “No play has ever conveyed more subtly the sense of the transitory nature of human life, the sadness and beauty of the passing moment.” Typical of Chekhov’s works, The Three Sisters is a masterful blend of comedy and poignancy, beautifully captured for a contemporary audience in Paul Schmidt’s “refreshingly clear and colloquial” translation.n the magical and thrilling flow of the unconscious.” —The New Yorker

TAMING OF THE SHREW (a re-envisioning)

By William Shakespeare
Directed by Darcey Engen

February 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 at 7 p.m.
February 7 and 14 at 3 p.m.

This contemporary re-envisioning of Shakespeare’s comedy The Taming of The Shrew clashes with its celebration of male dominance and the taming of women in the original text. Using music, movement, cross-gender casting, and contemporary reference, this production will tackle gender inequality and the true meaning of “taming” and “shrew.”

SAINT JOAN OF THE STOCKYARD

By Bertolt Brecht
Directed by Valadimir Rovensky

April 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 at 7 p.m.
April 11 and 18 at 2 p.m.

Saint Joan of the Stockyard is a cautionary tale for the 21st Century. The survival of youth, hope and faith in a world of greed and corruption hang in the balance. The play follows the central character, Joan, as she transitions from being a religious leader urging the poor to look to heaven for their rewards, into a striking worker demanding justice through force. With his barbed wit, Brecht exposes the inner workings of the unregulated free enterprise system, which is free to inflict misery on the masses in the pursuit of and in the name of the almighty dollar.
