Why Augsburg created the ACFL

  • Augsburg College has a longstanding commitment to the theological concept of vocation dating back to its origin as a seminary. Helping people recognize God’s call to service has always been a central focus of the College.
  • The College has already developed a dynamic infrastructure of vocation programming as a result of its exemplary Lilly grant program, Exploring Our Gifts.
  • The modern world faces unprecedented challenges – economic, environmental, social, and political. The need to serve the common good has never been more urgent, and Augsburg can help individuals and organizations understand how they can use their unique gifts to contribute.

What We Hope to Accomplish

We believe that we are called to serve our neighbor, and our vision is a future in which Lutheran institutions of higher education communicate this message through all their activities. We believe that Augsburg College is ideally positioned to model that principle in action. As a result, we have begun building a multi-million-dollar endowment for the Augsburg College Center for Faith & Learning to ensure that the work of helping people discern God’s call in their lives will remain at the core of the College for years to come.
