Diane PikeDiane L Pike
Professor of Sociology

Diane Pike teaches undergraduates in the areas of criminology, sociological theory and organizational theory. She also participates in the Master of Arts Program in Leadership, team-teaching in a course on the dynamics of change and directing the comprehensive examination seminar.

Throughout her years of teaching, Pike has been awarded the graduating seniors’ distinguished faculty award for teaching three times. Her leadership and service roles on campus since her arrival in 1981 have included Faculty Senate, The Committee on Tenure, Promotion, and Leaves, and Academic Affairs. She served as chair of the Strategic Planning Commission on Work Culture and competed a 1998 sabbatical in which she has balanced writing on effective teaching and graduate study in the history of science.

Her professional commitments include active professional development with the “Sociologists of Minnesota” (president 1991), the “Midwest Sociological Society” (State representative, committee on Undergraduate Education), and the “American Sociological Association” (four-year representative to SUE and as a consultant in the Departmental Resources Group), consultant/evaluator for the Collaboration for the Advancement of College Teaching and Learning, St. Paul. She has also done extensive consulting on teaching effectiveness and student engagement, curriculum development and assessment.
