ACADEMICS - Integrated Hybrid Curriculum

This distinctive Augsburg program features a combination of intensive learning experiences and hybrid coursework. The launch and mid-point classes are intensive multi-day courses.  These Signature Augsburg Experiences will allow you to connect with your cohort, the faculty, and the Augsburg mission and vision. During the academic year, classes meet on campus approximately once a month and online in between these face-to-face sessions.

The MAL Integrated Graduate Studies model is a cohort program. Students move through the program together and will complete the following courses: 

Summer 2011
Launch Intensive – ML 513 Responsible Leadership for the 21st Century (1 course)

Get out into the city and explore Augsburg’s Cedar Riverside neighborhood.  We’ll meet community leaders and explore the challenges of leadership in the 21st century.

Fall 2011
ML 520 and ML 523 Living and Leading Authentically (2 combined courses – hybrid format)

What does it mean to live and lead authentically?  In this set of courses you will explore that question through a variety of learning experiences to gain greater understanding of your strengths, values and life purpose.  You will develop a personal map for the future you want to create and a leadership plan that honors your authentic self.

Winter 2012
ML 510 Visions of Leadership (1 course – hybrid format)

Introduction to selected concepts of leadership, providing a historical and philosophical framework for the program. This course views the nature and purpose of leadership from a variety of disciplines and perspectives.

ML 563 Leadership in a Global Society (1 course – hybrid format)

This course is designed to help students work in diverse environments and develop a comprehensive understanding of how leadership and intercultural understandings integrate to support effective global leadership.

Spring 2012
ML 553 Design and Leadership (1 course – hybrid format)

“Design thinking” has transcended the world of engineering and architecture and is now a mainstream concern for most industries. This course explores the impact of “design thinking” on leadership, especially in the business world.

Summer 2012
Midpoint Intensive – Options to be developed with cohort input (1 course)

Fall 2012
ML 514 Research Methods (1 course– hybrid format)

Evaluation and documentation of programs, projects and ideas as they relate to leadership theories and practice. Qualitative and quantitative tools will be discussed.

ML 575 Constructive Conflict Resolution  (1 credit – hybrid format)

Understanding the basic principles of constructive conflict resolution is an essential part of effective leadership. This course teaches basic principles of constructive conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation approaches for resolving conflict.

Winter 2013
ML 580 Colloquium of Contemporary Theories of Leadership (1 course – hybrid format)

Selected contemporary theories of leadership plus a case study on a prominent leader. Emphasis on critical thinking, discussion, written analysis.

Spring 2013
ML 588 Final Project Seminar: Action Research (Plan D) (1 course – hybrid format)

In this seminar, the student will do action research on his/her own organization in order to address a current or anticipated problem or issue.
