ACADEMICS - Faculty

Rosemary J Link
Professor
link@augsburg.edu

(On leave to serve as Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.)

Rosemary Link"Globalization with a human face is the context of my current research and writing. There is increasing recognition that migration and human rights are key areas of knowledge for education and social work.   Understanding the impact of poverty and increasing access to work and education are areas of my current research, with a special focus on social development. I am fortunate to have worked in a number of countries including Mexico, India, Slovenia and Singapore, through the State Department's education ambassador program and Augsburg's Center for Global Education."

Dr. Link has participated in research for the Child Poverty Action Group in London and the Southside Family Nurturing Center in Minneapolis where she is now Chair of the Board.  She works as a co-learner as well as a teacher and researcher so that her classroom is a community of learners. She loves research and writing, for example together with Anthony Bibus, the book When Children Pay (2000,CPAG) and with Chathapuram Ramanathan the book All Our Futures (1999, 2004, Brooks/Cole Thomson).

"Augsburg is uniquely placed in an urban setting with strong ties to community agencies and worldwide communities through our video interactive project and the Center for Global Learning short term and semester courses.  Also, we have a creative and diverse group of faculty for joint projects both locally and globally."

How does Dr. Link help students to succeed? "I walk with them. We walk the road together through their courses, research and practicum.  Hopefully nobody slips through the cracks.  We are all role models and develop peer-based support through our seminars."

What is your next publication?  "Reaching for Common Ground" a study of successful social development projects for human behavior in the social environment courses, to be published by Rowman and Littlefield in 2007.
