Since career networking is typically high on the list of job searching tools, I want to tell you how the Augsburg Career Services and Alumni Relations staff, Augsburg alumni, and current students can help one another. We know that the Class of 2009 just graduated during one of the tightest job markets since 1983, with the number of internship opportunities diminishing and many of our Augsburg alumni finding themselves job searching for the first time in many years.
In order to help students, new grads, and alumni network effectively, the Career Services and Alumni Relations offices seek your assistance. If you work for a business or organization that is planning to hire, we invite you to post your positions on our web-based job board, AugPost. The Career Services office has the capacity to list — at no charge — full-time, part-time, and summer employment opportunities and internships with easy access for Augsburg students, new grads, and alumni.
If you are interested in learning how you or a member of your organization can take advantage of this free service, contact Sandy Tilton, career service employer relation coordinator, at tilton@augsburg.edu.
Also, if you are currently seeking a change of employment or contemplating a return to school for a graduate degree, check out Augsburg's Career Services or Graduate Admissions office. We would be more than happy to help.
And, as always, Augsburg has multiple ways alumni can become involved in the lives of students. Contact Pat Grans, volunteer coordinator, to learn about volunteer opportunities at Augsburg, at volunteer@augsburg.edu or 612-330-1329.
Thanks for your time and consideration,

Alumni Travel
Discover Italian Treasures
November 2-12, 2009
Be inspired and enriched traveling with Augsburg alumni and friends to Italy, November 2-12. Hosted by art professor Kristin Anderson, this exploration of Italian art, history, culture, and cuisine begins in Northern Italy, in Venice and Padua. Travel continues along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea to the historic port town of Ravenna to see magnificent Byzantine mosaics. Arrive into Tuscany and then into Florence, the city that gave birth to the Renaissance, for a two-night visit. Travel among the beauty of medieval hill towns and surrounding vineyards and olive groves into the Umbria Region with an overnight stay in one of those hills towns, Orvieto. The tour ends in the Eternal City of Rome where a tapestry of art, architecture, history, and culture woven over thousands of years makes it one of the founding cities of Western Civilization. A day excursion to the archeological site of Pompeii is part of the stay in Rome.
The cost of the tour is $2990 from the Twin Cities, plus gratuities and airport taxes; the estimated group size is 26. Take advantage of an opportune time, as the U.S. dollar is stronger and crowds are thinner than in past years.
For the itinerary and details, contact the Office of Alumni Relations at 612-330-1085 or alumni@augsburg.edu.
Professor Kristin Anderson is an experienced tour organizer and host and looks forward to a return to Italy to share her love and knowledge of art with alumni and friends. She has taught courses in the history of art at Augsburg College since 1984, including specialized courses on medieval art, and women and art.

Auggie Alumni Continue to Lead Augsburg Wrestling Program
The “interim” tag has been removed from Augsburg College wrestling head coach Mark Matzek's title.
Matzek, who guided the Auggies on an interim basis last season, accepted the head coaching position on a permanent basis, Augsburg athletic director Jeff Swenson announced. In addition, assistant head coach Jared Evans accepted a permanent position on the Auggie coaching staff.
Named interim head coach in July 2008, Matzek led the Auggies to a second-place NCAA Division III national tournament finish in the 2008-2009 season, finishing 11-2 in dual meets with a squad that included five new starters among the 10 weight classes. Along the way, the Auggies won the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III National Duals championship, topped perennial rival and eventual national champion Wartburg (Iowa) twice in dual meets, won the Great Lakes Regional and finished with seven All-Americans and one individual national champion. Academically, Augsburg finished 13th in the NWCA's Division III academic national listings with a 3.346 team grade-point average.
“I am very honored and humbled to take the role of head wrestling coach of my alma mater,” said Matzek, a 2005 Augsburg alumnus and Ellsworth, Wis., native. “I feel like I belong at Augsburg and there is no other program in the world I would rather be at. I will carry on the winning tradition as a coach, just as I did as a wrestler. Wrestlers in this program will have a championship wrestling experience while completing their degree to set themselves up for success after college.” MORE >
