Wallflower (Invasive Species) – Ursula Hargens

Christensen Center Art Gallery: June 15 – August 24, 2012Opening Reception: Friday, June 15, 5-7 p.m. Wallflower (Invasive Species), a ceramic tile work by Ursula Hargens, uses botanical imagery to examine the negotiated relationships between human, insect, and plant life. Motifs blossom, unite, and compete within the composition, exploring themes of transformation, dislocation, and nostalgia in the natural world.

Gage Family Art Gallery: July 26 - August 21, 2012Reception: Thursday, August 9, 6-8 p.m. What started as taking snapshots for fighters developed into an examination of relationships and interactions in a space where sanctioned and regulated conflict occurs. Becky Olstad’s photographic exhibition documents the community of the Circle of Discipline (COD), a boxing center located on Lake Street in Minneapolis. COD fosters the development of high-risk youth and young adults by nurturing their emotional, physical and mental health primarily through the sport of boxing.

This exhibition is made possible by a grant from OverExposure with funds appropriated by the McKnight Foundation. OverExposure is a nonprofit organization that creates documentary photography projects that engage the community.
