2008 Auggie Award Finalists -- Women's Rookie of the Year

Auggie AwardsHere are the four finalists for the Augsburg College Women's Rookie of the Year award, to be given at the 2008 Auggie Awards ceremony at the Christensen Center on Monday, April 21. Rookie of the Year award is reserved for a first-year student-athlete (no transfers). For spring sports, first-year athletes from 2007 were considered for nomination.

All-MIAC … Became just second Augsburg women’s golfer to ever earn All-MIAC honors (Andrea Sievert was the first in 1998) with 10th-place finish (88-81-84—253) at MIAC championships, best Auggie finish in a 54-hole event in school history … Led team with 89.56 stroke average in fall half of 2007-08 season (806 strokes, nine rounds) … Recorded 6 of Augsburg’s 9 rounds in the 80s during fall half of season, including season-best 81 in second round of MIAC tournament … Native of Stockholm, Sweden in first year of college golf.

All-MIAC honorable-mention in 2 events in 2007 indoor track … In 2007 track, earned 2 All-MIAC honorable-mention honors with 4th place in 55-meter dash (7.54 seconds) and 5th place in 200-meter dash (26.90 seconds) at indoor championships … Placed 7th in finals of MIAC outdoor 100-meter dash (13.12 seconds).

In cross country, was Augsburg’s No. 1 runner, improving her personal-best time in all 5 of her 6,000-meter events this season, improving her time by a 1:56 margin from her first 6K event to her last … Finished 34th at MIAC championships with 23:58.70 time, then 50th at NCAA Division III Central Regional with 23:50 time … Had season-best placing with 16th-place finish at St. Olaf Pre-Nationals Invitational on Oct. 6 … In indoor track and field, competed in middle-distance events, finishing 7th in MIAC indoor championships in mile run (5:25.68) and 10th in 1,000-meter run (3:07.37), both team-bests … also team-best 2:27.31 in 800-meter run.

MIAC All-First-Year Team … Started 22 of 25 games this season … averaged 10.5 points per-game, finishing 3rd on team in scoring, adding 3.2 rebounds per-game and 1.8 assists per-game … Scoring total was 3rd-best among MIAC first-year players in overall statistics and 22nd overall … 41 3-pointers this season was 7th-most among MIAC players and 7th-best in a single-season in Augsburg history … In MIAC games-only stats, ranked 26th in scoring (10.0 ppg) and ninth in 3-pointers made (35) … Had 16 double-figure scoring games, including season-high 24 points in 75-69 win over St. Olaf on Feb. 4.
