FORT MYERS, Fla. (3/19/04) -- Jon Kozitza (Jr., North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in in the first game, and had two RBI on sacrifices in the second game, including the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Augsburg College swept a baseball doubleheader over St. Lawrence University (N.Y.) in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic baseball tournament on Friday. Augsburg is now 5-7 on the season.

Augsburg pounded out a season-high 12 hits in the first game, including doubles by Collin Nash (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and Taylor Pagel (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.). Augsburg built a 9-1 lead after four innings, then pounded out six runs in the top of the sixth to clinch the rout.

Nash scored three runs for the Auggies, while Pagel, Troy Deden (So., Northfield, Minn.), Matt Johnson (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) and Brian Bambenek (Fr., St. Charles, Minn.) scored twice each. Pagel went 2-for-3 in the game with five runs batted in.

Jeremy Nelson (Jr., Maplewood, Minn./Roseville HS) improved to 1-1 on the season with a complete-game effort, allowing six hits, just one earned run and two walks while striking out four.

In the second game, Augsburg rallied from a 6-1 deficit, scoring three runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh to claim the victory.

In the sixth, an RBI single by Pat Knafla (Sr., Rice, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) plated a run, and Darren Ginther (So., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored on a fielding error. Kozitza hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Knafla.

In the bottom of the seventh, Augsburg took advantage of two errors, including one on a sacrifice bunt attempt, to load the bases and score a run. A sacrifice fly by Deden plated the tying run, and a one-out, suicide-squeeze, sacrifice bunt by Kozitza scored Ginther with the game-winning run.

Adam Johnson (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) picked up his first collegiate victory on the mound in relief, striking out three in three innings of work. Eric Weber (Fr., Hastings, Minn.) started and worked four innings, allowing all six runs while striking out two and allowing 12 hits.

The Auggies finish play in the Gene Cusic Classic with a doubleheader against Aurora (Ill.) on Saturday (3/20) at 9 a.m.
