College Baseball -- St. John's at Augsburg, 4/11/00 College Baseball -- St. John's at Augsburg, 4/11/00 MINNEAPOLIS (4/11/00) -- Brent Schloe (Sr., St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo HS) hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to break open the first game, guiding St. John's University to a sweep at Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Parade Stadium. The Johnnies won the first game 4-0 and the second 10-1. With the wins, St. John's remains unbeaten in MIAC play at 6-0, and improves to 13-6 overall. Augsburg drops to 4-17 overall and 0-8 in the MIAC. Schloe's home run, with no outs in the sixth inning, spoiled an outstanding pitching performance by Augsburg's Nic Shelby (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels HS), who struck out three while allowing three earned runs. St. John's scored a single run in the first inning, thn added an insurance run in the seventh. Dusty Rector (So., Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins HS) struck out eight Auggies while allowing just two walks and seven hits en route to the first-game pitching victory. Schloe had two hits in the first game and scored two of the Johnnies' four runs. Mike Schwalen (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Richfield HS) and David Sherry (So., Hastings, Minn.) had two hits apiece for Augsburg. Brian Whinnery (So., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) pitched well for the Johnnies in the second game, striking out five while allowing no walks and just six Auggie hits. Meanwhile, Kyle Casey (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS) went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. Casey had a single, double and triple to lead the Johnnies from the leadoff spot. Blair Flokens (Jr., Hector, Minn./Buffalo Lake-Hector HS) had two hits and Jeff Swenson (Jr., Holdingford, Minn.) scored two runs. The Auggies could only manage a single run in the sixth inning, when a Pat Marsh (So., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) double drove in Schwalen. Marsh and Schwalen had two hits apiece, with Schwalen stealing two bases as well. Eric Mogenson (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) took the pitching loss for Augsburg, though only one of the six runs he allowed was earned. Dave Fransen (Fr., Farmington, Minn.) and Matt Topp (So., South St. Paul, Minn.) also pitched in relief for the Auggies. Augsburg hosts Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a nonconference doubleheader on Thursday (4/13) at 2:30 p.m. at Parade Stadium. The game was postponed from Monday. St. John's hosts Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday (4/12) at 4 p.m. in a single game.
