Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Megan Almanzo
Megan Almanzo (Connecticut '03) enters her third season as an assistant coach at Augsburg in 2007. Almanzo was a four-year starter as a midfielder/defender at the University of Connecticut (1999-2002), a team that made three appearances in the NCAA Division I Elite Eight in her career. She earned second-team all-region honors during her career with the Huskies, which were ranked as high as No. 4 nationally in her senior season. Almanzo appeared in 87 games (65 starts) as a Huskie, with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. She had three career game-winning goals. A native of New Hope, Minn., Almanzo was a two-time conference player of the year selection at Robbinsdale Armstrong HS. She earned all-conference honors three times, all-state honors twice and was named Star-Tribune Metro Player of the Year in 1998. She was also named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America team that season. She was Armstrong's Athena Award recipient her senior year. After her collegiate playing days ended, Almanzo made the preseason roster for the San Diego Spirit of the Women’s United Soccer Association. She also competed for the U.S. Women’s Amateur National “B” team in 2003 and 2004. She also played for the Simba Select team and the St. Paul Blackhawks in her career, and currently plays for the USL W-League’s Minnesota Lightning. Almanzo also coaches youth soccer for the Plymouth (Minn.) Soccer Association.
