Brian Ammann (Augsburg '85) has built a tradition of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and national success at Augsburg College since becoming the head coach of the Auggie men's basketball and men's golf teams in 1988. Ammann has come full-circle since his playing days at Augsburg in the early 1980s, achieving success as both a player and now as a coach.

On the basketball court, Ammann's Auggies claimed two straight MIAC regular-season championships (1997-98 and 1998-99), advancing to the NCAA Division III national tournament each time, reaching the MIAC playoffs four seasons in a row. Over the past decade, Ammann has built a solid program with trademark good shooting and fast-paced offenses.

His men's golf teams have made three NCAA Division III national tournament appearances in the last decade (1995, 1996, 1997), including an MIAC championship in 1995.

A native of Richfield, Minn., Ammann graduated from Augsburg in 1985. As a four-year starting guard for the Auggie men's basketball team, his all-out effort helped Augsburg to two MIAC titles, two conference runner-up finishes and a 78-28 record. Ammann was an NCAA Division III All-American and ended his career as the school's all-time leading scorer (2,271 points).

Ammann was an assistant men's basketball coach at NCAA Division II schools North Dakota State and Northern Michigan for three seasons before returning to his alma mater in 1988 to assume his current coaching duties.

Ammann lives in Lakeville, Minn., with his wife, Dawn, and their daughter, Kelsie. Ammann also teaches in the college's health and physical education department.
