Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Stan Blom
Stan Blom (Augsburg '78), who helped make Auggie hockey history during his playing days, returns to the Auggie coaching staff for his eighth season in 2005-06, working with the junior varsity. In 2004, Blom was inducted into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame. Blom was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1978 NAIA national tournament, after he helped lead the Auggies to the school's first national title in any sport. After leaving Augsburg, he played for five years in the semipro ranks, playing for the United States Hockey League's Madison Blues and Waterloo Blackhawks. After the USHL became a junior league, he stayed in Waterloo for a year coaching, then later was an assistant coach with Mike Schwartz at Blom's high school alma-mater, St. Paul Johnson HS. He also was an assistant coach at White Bear Lake HS for five seasons (1992-93 to 1996-97), including four on Schwartz's staff. When he was a prep hockey player, Blom's Johnson Governors made the state tournament twice. Blom currently works as a firefighter for the St. Paul Fire Department, and he and his wife Karen, have two children -- Stan Jr. and Nicole -- and live in Vadnais Heights, Minn.
