Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Eric Hand
Eric Hand (Luther '02) enters his first season on the Augsburg staff in 2005, serving as the Auggies' defensive coordinator. Hand most recently worked as linebackers coach and strength and conditioning coach at Lakeland College (Wis.), which claimed a share of the the Illini-Badger Conference championship in 2004, finishing 7-3 overall. He coached two Muskie all-conference linebackers, including a third-team All-American selection. He also served as the junior varsity defensive coordinator. Hand also served as strength and conditioning coach for the football team and four other sports at Lakeland. Hand was a graduate assistant defensive coach at Nebraska-Omaha in the 2003 season, guiding the middle linebackers while assisting on special teams. He was in charge of film breakdowns, defensive scouting reports and video editing, while also running the offensive scout team for UNO, which finished 8-3 and claimed a second-place finish in the Division II North Central Conference. He was an inside linebackers coach at Iowa Central Community College in the 2002 season, helping the team earn a regional championship and No. 14 national ranking. He coached three all-conference linebackers and one first-team All-American at ICCC. Hand played his first two seasons of collegiate football as a linebacker at Iowa Central CC, before completing his career at Luther (Iowa) as a two-year starter at linebacker. He earned All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorable-mention honors in 1999 at Luther, and was co-captain for the Norse in the 2000 season. Hand graduated in 2002 from Luther with a physical education major. A native of Independence, Iowa, Hand is single and currently lives in Roseville, Minn.
