Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Greg Holker
Greg Holker (Gustavus Adolphus '00) enters his fourth season as the Augsburg College men's soccer head coach in 2007. He also serves the college as athletic facilities assistant manager and director of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Holker has led a dynamic rebuilding of the Auggie men's soccer program since being named head coach in 2004. Taking a team that had won just five games in the year before he arrived, Holker's teams have shown strong improvement in each of his three seasons, including a 13-3-3 overall record and first-ever berth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference four-team postseason playoffs in 2006. He was named MIAC Coach of the Year in 2006 by his conference coaching colleagues. Holker's career coaching record of 26-22-7 is now third-best in Augsburg history. The Auggies' 13 wins in 2006 are the second-most in a single season in school history, behind only the 15 wins in the team's MIAC championship season of 1975 (15-2-1), and the 13 points in league play (5-2-3) are the most for the Auggies since their last MIAC title season in 1980 (11-1-3 overall, 9-0-3 MIAC, 21 points). Prior to coming to Augsburg, Holker served as head coach at the Academy of Holy Angels High School in Richfield, Minn., in 2003. He earned Minnesota Division II Coach of the Year honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2003, after leading Holy Angels to a 13-4-2 record, a seven-win improvement over the previous year. Holy Angels shared the Missota Conference championship with Class A state runner-up Northfield, finishing 7-1 in league play. Holy Angels reached the Section 5A semifinals after being ranked as high as No. 2 in the Class A state coaches' poll for five consecutive weeks in 2003. Holker's Stars had three All-State selections and one All-Region selection. Prior to coaching at Holy Angels, Holker served as boys' soccer assistant coach at Bloomington Jefferson High School in the 2002 season. The Jaguars finished 8-6-5 overall, 6-1-2 and second place in conference play. Holker served two seasons as men's soccer assistant coach at his alma mater, Gustavus Adolphus College, from 2000-01. While at Gustavus, the Gusties won the 2000 MIAC title and were ranked as high as 10th nationally in the NCAA Division III polls. In his two seasons as an assistant coach, Gustavus tallied a 28-8-1 record. He has been a member of the Minnesota Olympic Development Program staff since 2003 (currently coaching the '90 boys' team), and holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, NSCAA Level II GK Diploma, and a USSF 'C' license. Holker is also a trainer for the Bangu Tsunami Futbol Club and acts as an instructor for the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association's coaching licensure program. As a player at Gustavus Adolphus College from 1996-99, Holker earned NSCAA All-Region and All-MIAC honors his senior season. He started 61 of his 69 career games in the midfield and earned a spot on the 14-member Gustavus All-History Soccer Team in 2002. Holker earned his bachelor's degree in English from Gustavus in 2000 and is nearing completion of his master's degree in human performance from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Holker and his wife, Connie, live in Minneapolis, Minn.
