Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Mike Navarre
Mike Navarre (Wisconsin '96) enters his 10th season as Augsburg's women's soccer coach in 2008. He also served as men's soccer head coach at Augsburg for five seasons (1999-2003). Navarre is also an instructor in the college's Health and Physical Education department. Navarre has led a rebirth in Augsburg's women's soccer fortunes during his tenure, developing the Auggies into a team that consistently challenges for prominence in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, considered one of the toughest NCAA Division III women's soccer conferences in the country. Five straight winning seasons, four double-digit win seasons in the last five years, three straight berths in the MIAC postseason playoffs, multiple all-conference and all-region selections, and a reputation of talented, hard-working student-athletes are the products of the growth and success of Augsburg women's soccer under Navarre, who has built a strong program based on solid fundamental play, strong defense and an attacking offense. Navarre enters the 2008 season with a 75-68-18 (.522) record with the Auggies, including a 59-34-15 (.616) mark over the last six seasons. During the last six years, Augsburg has compiled a 36-21-9 (.614) record in league play, including a school-record seven league wins in 2004, 2006 and 2007. Prior to coming to Augsburg in 1999, Navarre served as a graduate assistant for one of the most successful programs in the history of intercollegiate athletics, the University of North Carolina women's soccer team under coach Anson Dorrance. Before completing his graduate work at North Carolina, Navarre was the boys' soccer head coach and girls' soccer assistant coach (1995-97) at Madison (Wis.) Edgewood HS. The boys' team qualified for the state tournament twice under Navarre. He also served as a staff coach for the Madison 56ers Soccer Club (1993-97), directing his team to the state championship game in 1996 and 1997. Navarre has served as one of the staff coaches for the Minnesota Olympic Development Program (ODP). Navarre holds a United States Soccer Federation "B" coaching license, has an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and has an NSCAA Level II Goalkeeper's License. At North Carolina, Navarre was awarded a Merit Scholarship and served as an instructor in the Department of Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science and as an intern in the athletic academic advising program. Navarre and his wife, Marta, have a son, Dominick and a daughter, Lucca.
