Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Andy Nelson
Andy Nelson (Augsburg '07), one of the top infielders in recent years for the Augsburg baseball program, enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Auggies in 2009. A native of Waseca, Minn., Nelson began his career as a second baseman and moved to shortstop in his senior season of 2007. In his career at Augsburg (2003-04, 2006-07; 143 games, 140 starts), he finished with a .311 career batting average (133-of-428), with 114 runs scored, 17 doubles, one triple, one home run, 63 RBI, a .362 slugging percentage, a .413 on-base percentage and 53 stolen bases. He was also hit-by-pitch 53 times in his career. He finished his career with a .922 fielding percentage, with 42 errors in 541 defensive chances. He led the team in hitting in 2004, with a career-best .391 average and .495 slugging percentage. In 2007, Nelson earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorable-mention honors, after hitting .260 with a conference-best 19 stolen bases in 23 attempts.
