Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Mariah Ohlsen
Mariah Ohlsen (Southern Methodist '00) will serve in her third season as an Augsburg assistant coach in 2007. A defensive specialist, Ohlsen was a three-year starter and served as team captain her senior season at Southern Methodist University (Texas), where she earned All-Western Athletic Conference first-team honors in 1999. She earned WAC Academic All-Conference honors three seasons and was named the college’s Academic Athlete of the Year in 1999. She earned the team's highest grade-point average award in 1996 and 1997, and was awarded the team's Mustang Award, given to the player who best embodies the Mustang spirit, in 1996, 1998 and 1999. She finished her career with 872 digs and earned the team's Best Defensive Player award in 1999. A native of Omaha, Neb., Ohlsen was a senior captain of the volleyball team at Millard North HS and was a four-year member of the River City Juniors club team, which won a club national championship in 1995. Ohlsen was a teammate of Augsburg head coach Jessica Rinehart in 1996. She also participated in gymnastics, diving and track and field at Millard North. She graduated with honors and was named the Omaha Academic Athlete of the Year in 1996. Ohlsen earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from SMU in 2000 and attended graduate school at Creighton University (Neb.), where she earned her doctorate degree in physical therapy in 2003. Ohlsen currently practices physical therapy at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn.
