Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- Tom Ross
Tom Ross (Augsburg '81) returned to Augsburg in 2003 for his fourth stint as an Augsburg assistant coach, his second as defensive coordinator. In 2004, he adds assistant head coach duties to his resume. He previously served at Augsburg as a position coach (1983-89), offensive coordinator (1991), defensive coordinator (1992-94), and as a special teams/defensive coach (1998-99). In 1995-96, he served on the St. Olaf College football staff as defensive coordinator, and was a defensive backs coach in 1997 at Carleton College. He has also served as an assistant coach at Northfield HS (1981-82) as well as coaching basketball at Mound-Westonka HS (1983-84). Prior to returning to Augsburg in 2003, Ross coached football in Germany with the Stuttgart Scorpions for two seasons. In 2001, he served as defensive coordinator for a unit that had the German Football League's top scoring defense. In 2002, he was promoted to head coach and led the Scorpions to a 9-4-1 record, finishing second in the GFL and finishing as a semifinalist in Europe's top league playoffs. While attending Augsburg, Ross was a defensive back, starting three seasons. He also played two seasons of tennis. A native of Northfield, Minn., Ross lives in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., with his wife Merry, a receptionist for Augsburg's athletics and health and physical education departments.
