Jonathan Schaefer (St. Mary's '96) enters his fifth season as an Augsburg College men's soccer assistant coach in 2008.

Schaefer holds a USSF 'B' license, a USYS National 'Y' license, and NSCAA Level I and II GK diplomas. Schaefer is also a certified personal trainer and has worked with many elite athletes dedicated to improving athletic performance.

On top of his responsibilities at Augsburg, Schaefer is currently the director of program and player development at the Cottage Grove Soccer Club and works with various age groups training and coaching for the Minnesota Thunder Elite Soccer Academy.

Schaefer has been a soccer coach on a variety of levels over the past 12 years in Minnesota -- as the boys' head coach at DeLaSalle HS in Minneapolis from 1997 to 2003, and as the boys' head coach at Mounds View HS in 2004. Schaefer earned Section Coach of the Year honors in 2000 and 2001, and was named State Class A Coach of the Year in 2001.

Schaefer was a four-year starter and two-year captain at St. Mary's University. He holds the No. 3 spot on the school's all-time scoring list for a single season (1996).

Schaefer earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from St. Mary's in 1996 and earned his Master of Arts degree in Kinesiology-Sports Management form the University of Minnesota in 2005. Schaefer also is the owner and director of FootHolde -- Elite Soccer Camps, Clinics and Youth Soccer Training Programs -- a youth soccer training company based in the Twin Cities. Schaefer lives in Minneapolis, Minn.
