Don Stoner (Wisconsin-Oshkosh '91) has served as Augsburg College's sports information director since August 1997. The sports information department is in charge of all public relations efforts involving the college's 18 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams. Augsburg's sports information office produces media guides, schedules and athletic publications; distributes news releases to hometown, regional and national media; maintains the athletics portion of the Augsburg web site; produces update materials for distribution on- and off-campus; produces materials for college publications and newsletters; works with Augsburg's radio broadcasting team; keeps statistical and historical files of college teams and individuals; and serves as spokesperson regarding athletic issues and public events.

A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Stoner is currently a member of the Academic All-America committee, and chaired the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sports information directors committee from 2001-03. He has received numerous awards for his work, including three CoSIDA "Best in the District" awards for writing and three national top-five honors for athletic publications.

Stoner is also frequently active in freelance and volunteer work for various pro and college sports organizations, including the Minnesota Timberwolves (NBA), Minnesota Lynx (WNBA) and the University of Minnesota. He has volunteered on the media relations staffs at numerous regional and national championship events, including the Division I men's basketball Final Four and men's and women's hockey Frozen Fours held in the Twin Cities, and the Division III baseball national championships held in Appleton, Wis.

Stoner came to the sports information field from the newspaper industry, where he had worked for a decade. Stoner worked from December 1995 to August 1997 as a sportswriter at the Worthington (Minn.) Daily Globe, a 12,000-circulation daily newspaper, covering sports at more than 25 high schools and one area college in southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa. Prior to that, Stoner worked from April 1993 to December 1995 in New Richmond, Wis., as the editor of The News, a 5,000-circulation weekly newspaper. Stoner was the sports editor of the St. Peter Herald in St. Peter, Minn., from September 1991 to April 1993.

A native of Somerset, Wis., Stoner graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in May 1991 with a bachelor's degree in journalism (news/editorial emphasis) and minor in radio/television. While at UW-Oshkosh, Stoner worked at the city's daily newspaper, the Oshkosh Northwestern, as a sportswriter, and also broadcast sports and news on the university's radio station, WRST-FM.
