Augsburg College Athletics Staff -- John Szwaja
John Szwaja (Bemidji State ‘02) enters his first season on Augsburg’s men’s basketball staff. Szwaja played collegiately at Bethany Lutheran College, earning a junior college conference title there, before transferring to play as a two-year starter at Bemidji State. He earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week and Academic All-Conference honors at Bemidji State, averaging 7.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in his senior season. From 2002-04, Szwaja served as a graduate assistant coach at Bemidji State. Last season, the Beavers set school records for wins both overall (20) and in conference play (14), winning the NSIC title and advancing to the NCAA Division II national tourney. Szwaja earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Bemidji State in 2002, and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in sports studies there. He lives in St. Paul, Minn.
