Head Coach Jack Osberg
Jack Osberg, a Minneapolis
native, became Augsburgs head football coach in March 1991. |
In his six seasons,
he has improved the program, going 2-7, 3-7, 5-5, 5-5 and 6-4 before going
3-7 last year. |
After graduating from
Minneapolis Washburn High School, he was a standout football player at
Augsburg from 1958-61, and was inducted into the colleges Athletic Hall
of Fame in 1979. |
He later served eight
seasons as the schools defensive coordinator (1977-84), and was head varsity
coach for six seasons at Wayzata High School (1971-76). |
Osbergs coaching career
also included one season as a graduate coach on Bob Devaneys staff at
Nebraska (1968-69). Osbergs prep coaching career began when he served
for seven years as an assistant coach at Minneapolis Roosevelt (1962-68,
69-70). |
He also coached one
season at Bloomington Kennedy (1970-71) before moving to Wayzata, where
he taught biology for 20 years and coached in the varsity program from
1971-76 as head coach and from 1985-90 as an assistant coach. |
While playing at Augsburg,
Osberg twice was chosen All-MIAC in football. The nose guard-offensive
guard was selected MVP, captain and Lutheran All-American. He also wrestled
three seasons, and later was head wrestling coach at Roosevelt H.S. |
Osberg has been recognized
for his teaching excellence in the Wayzata school district, and also served
as a Sunday School teacher and a youth coach in softball and hockey. He
resides in Plymouth with his wife, Nina, who is also a teacher at Wayzata
H.S. His six children are Rich (31), Jennifer (29), Peter (28), Jeff (28),
James (25) and Anne (18). |

Drew Privette, Quarterbacks/Men's
Athletic Recruiting Coordinator
Drew Privette begins his sixth season as an Augsburg coach and third
as Augsburg's men's athletic recruiter. Privette was a standout receiver
for Augsburg and twice was named to the all-MIAC team. Privette still holds
several Augsburg receiving records, including most career receptions (146),
and most catches and yards in a game (14 catches, 180 yards). Privette
was also an all-MIAC right winger for the Auggies hockey team. The Duluth
native returned to Augsburg after coaching hockey for one season at St.
Paul Johnson H.S., and one year at St. Bernards High School. He
lives in White Bear Lake with his wife, Molly, and daughter Anna.

Jim Roback, Defensive Coordinator
Jim Roback (Augsburg '63), who was inducted into Augsburg's Hall of
Fame in 1990, joined the Augsburg staff in 1995 as defensive coordinator.
Roback has taught and coached in Anoka-Hennepin School District 11 for
the past 33 years at both Anoka and Coon Rapids High Schools.
He was an assistant on the 1983 Coon Rapids State AA champion football
team and has also helped coach teams and individuals to prep state tournaments
in baseball, basketball and track & field. After starring in
baseball and football for Augsburg, Roback played professional baseball
for one year in the Minnesota Twins' organization. Roback and his
wife, Pat, live in Anoka and have four grown children--Paul, Jill, Joni
and Pete.

Darrell Wiese, Assistant Recruiter/
Offensive Line
Darrell Wiese begins his third year as assistant athletic recruiter
and assistant football and baseball coach for Augsburg. Wiese, who
served as a volunteer assistant in Augsburg's athletic programs for many
years, has recruiting duties primarily in southern and southeastern Minnesota
and western Wisconsin. Wiese attended Augsburg from 1956-59 and was
a member of the 1959 Augsburg baseball team that tied St. Thomas and St.
Mary's for the MIAC baseball championship. Wiese and his wife, Arlys,
live in rural Northfield. They have two grown children--son Jim and
daughter Karla.

Reed Boltman
Linebackers
A former standout strong safety and linebacker for the Auggies, Reed
Boltman enters his second year on the Auggies staff. Boltman was the Auggies'
running backs coach last season. Boltman was a four-year letterwinner and
three-time team MVP for the Auggies before graduating in 1988. His coaching
career has included stints at Prior Lake H.S., St. Louis Park H.S. and
Shakopee H.S. Boltman currently teaches physical education at Shakopee
High School and lives in Shakopee with his wife, Trisha.

Frank Haege, Offensive Coordinator
Frank Haege, a native of Virginia, Minn., joins the Augsburg staff for
his second season. Haege, has followed in the footsteps of his father,
Art, who has been a coach in the professional Arena Football League, most
currently with the Iowa Barnstormers. Frank also serves full-time as the
defensive coordinator and director of player personnel for the New
Jersey Red Dogs of the Arena Football League. Haege, who got his bachelor's
degree at UW-Stout, earned his master's degree at Bemidji State, where
he also coached football for four seasons. As a tight end at Stout, Haege
earned three letters and was a three-time selection to the all-conference
academic team. He was the team's leading receiver in 1991. Haege and his
wife, Lori, reside in Hopkins with their son, Ryan, 12.

Jeff Swenson, Defensive Line
Defensive line coach Jeff Swenson, a football letterwinner as a linebacker
at Augsburg from 1975-78, begins his eighth season on the Auggies football
staff. Swenson has distinguished himself as head coach of the colleges
four-time national championship wrestling team. The 1975 Minneapolis South
High graduate has coached Augsburg wrestling 15 seasons, and his teams
have captured 14 MIAC titles. In 1995, Swenson was named National Coach
of the Year in Division III wrestling for the third time, and he is among
a prestigious group of wrestling coaches nationally to win 100 matches
as a competitor and 100 dual matches as a coach. As a student-athlete
with the Auggies, Swenson was a three-time wrestling All-American highlighted
by an individual national championship at 167 pounds in 1979. He had a
102-17 competitive record and was selected as Honor Athlete for 1979. Swenson
also serves as assistant athletic director and strength coach for the athletic
department and Alumni A-Club representative. Swenson, who earned
his master's degree in health at the University of Minnesota in 1981, resides
in Minneapolis.

Ron Scott
Offensive Line
Augsburg Hall of Fame member Ron Scott joins the Auggies
football coaching staff for his first season. Scott, who played center
for the Auggies during the 1959-61 seasons, was inducted into the Hall
of Fame in 1995. Scott is a veteran of the coaching ranks in Minnesota.
He coached at Comfrey for three years, four years as an assistant at Coon
Rapids and 19 years as a head coach at Coon Rapids, where he won the 1983
Minnesota Class AA state title and was named state coach of the year. He
was inducted into the Minnesota High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame
in 1990, and served as president of the Minnesota High School Football
Coaches Association in 1980. Scott taught at Comfrey and Coon Rapids
for 13 years, served as counselor/dean at Coon Rapids for 12 years, and
was assistant principal at Anoka High School for 10 years. Scott, who has
been married to his wife, Karen, for 40 years, has four children (Roxanne,
Susan, Peter and Jon) and eight grandchildren.

Bill Kriesel, Defensive Backs
Bill Kriesel joins the Auggies coaching staff for his second season
after a successful career as an Auggies defensive back. The Rosemount native
was a three-time all-MIAC selection and he set a school single-season record
with eight interceptions in 1993 and a single-game record with three against
St. Thomas in 1992. His 15 career pickoffs is second in school history.
Kriesel was an academic all-MIAC selection in 1995. He is presently working
for Leather Limited at the Mall of America.
