Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame

The Augsburg College Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1973 to recognize those who have participated in the College’s long and proud athletic history, as well as to establish a means whereby alumni, students and the public can be made aware of and take part in Augsburg’s athletic tradition.

Men chosen for the Hall of Fame must be alumni of Augsburg and must have contributed to the advancement of the College through athletics. The year of 1989 marked the inaugural year for women's induction into the Hall of Fame. Women selected to the Hall of Fame must be alumnae or have devoted special service to the women’s athletic department and must have established a record of outstanding athletic achievement. Recipients are honored at a Hall of Fame banquet during Homecoming week.

In 1990, the Women’s Distinguished Athletic Service Award was presented to Lavonne Johnson Peterson '50. Also in 1990, three Distinguished Athletic Service Awards were presented to Ab Strommen '38, C.L. Bobb Miller '48, and John Werket '49. In 1995, two Distinguished Athletic Service Awards were presented to Doug Nelson '76 and LuVerne Nelson '43. In 2002, two Distinguished Athletic Service Awards were presented to Irene Steenson and Merlin White '56. In 2008, a Distinguished Athletic Service Award was presented to Darrell Wiese '59.
