MINNEAPOLIS (2/9/02) -- Shaun McGuire (Jr., Monticello, Minn.) had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, as St. John's University pulled away in the first half and cruised to a 67-46 victory over host Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Using a 13-2 run midway through the first half, the Johnnies pulled ahead from an early 12-6 deficit to lead 19-14 with 9:51 left in the first half. The Johnnies never trailed after that run, leading 33-22 at halftime. Mike Nester (Sr., Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley HS) had eight of his 14 points in the first half for St. John's.

The Johnnies improved to 12-10 overall and 10-7 in the MIAC, while Augsburg dropped to 10-12 overall and 6-11 in MIAC play. Augsburg has lost two straight games and three of its last four.

Dusty Lamker (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) also had 14 points for the Johnnies, adding six rebounds, three assists and four steals. Kevin Buth (Jr., Edina, Minn.) had eight points and five rebounds, and Luke Witt (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) had seven points and six rebounds.

Augsburg was led by Jay Howard (So., Burnsville, Minn.), who returned to the lineup after missing the last two games with an ankle injury. Howard had 10 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Adam Kotewa (Jr., Mankato, Minn./West HS) scored nine points, and Travis Kalis (So., Elysian, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) and Zac Rosen (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) had six points apiece.

Both teams return to MIAC action on Monday (2/11) at 7:30 p.m., Augsburg playing at St. Olaf and St. John's hosting Hamline.
