MINNEAPOLIS (1/28/06) -- Charles Meadowcroft (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Columbia Heights HS) claimed a double-double with 21 points, 12 reobunds and two blocked shots, as his Bethel University men's basketball team used a strong shooting performance from the field to score an 85-64 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

In improving to 11-6 overall and 6-6 in MIAC play, the Royals hit 52.8 percent from the field (28-of-53), including hitting 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from three-point range. Matt Fredrickson (Sr., Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points with three assists, Tyson Bjorklund (Sr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit three 3-pointers to score 17 points, and Meadowcroft connected on two 3-pointers, adding three assists and two steals.

Dan Graf (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) led Augsburg with 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Augsburg is now 3-15 overall, 2-11 in MIAC play, dropping its eighth straight game and 11th in its last 12 starts.

Bethel slowly pulled ahead in the first half, eventually taking an 11-point advantage, 34-23, with 5:38 left in the opening stanza. The Royals led 42-32 at halftime and the 21-point final margin of victory was the biggest lead for the Royals in the game.

Augsburg hit just 32.4 percent (23-of-71) from the field, hitting 8-of-29 (27.6 percent) from three-point range. Augsburg outrebounded Bethel by a 43-37 margin.

Justin Kozlowski (So., Wausau, Wis./Wausau Newman HS) had 14 points, connecting on four 3-pointers, for the Auggies, while Darren Nelson (So., Richfield, Minn.) had 11 points and seven rebounds, coming off the bench. Devin Rose (So., Granton, Wis.) had eight points.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Monday (1/30), with Bethel playing at St. John's at 7:30 p.m. and Augsburg playing at Carleton at 8 p.m.
