Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (2/14/00) -- Kevin Van Rossum (Sr., Green
Bay, Wis./Preble HS) scored 20 points, hitting six 3-pointers,
as Augsburg College scored an 86-70 victory over St. Olaf College
in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball
game Monday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
With the win, Augsburg moved into a second-place tie with St.
John's in the MIAC race. Each team has two games remaining in
the regular season. Augsburg is now 14-7 overall and 13-5 in the
MIAC, while St. John's, after its 52-49 loss to Bethel Monday
night, is 17-5 overall and 13-5 in the MIAC. St. Olaf drops to
3-19 overall and 3-14 in the MIAC.
Van Rossum now has 968 career points, moving into 15th place on
the school's all-time scoring list. The school's three-point field
goal record-holder, Van Rossum now has 224 career three-pointers.
Augsburg used a 14-3 first-half run to take a commanding 13-point
lead, 28-15, at the 7:01 mark. The Auggies slowly expanded the
lead, holding a 46-29 halftime advantage. Augsburg led by as many
as 23 points in the second half.
Ten Auggies scored in the game, four in double figures. Matt
Davis (Jr., Marshall, Minn.) scored 13 points, had 14 rebounds
and added five blocked shots. He now has 28 blocked shots this
season.
Jason Beckendorf (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Chris York
(Fr., Burnsville, Minn.) had 10 points each, with Jeoffrey
Reed (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./De La Salle HS) had eight points
and Josh Natzel (So., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had nine rebounds.
For St. Olaf, Matt Hofkens (So., Neenah, Wis.) led the
way, scoring 18 points and pulling down six rebounds. Ryan
Olson (Jr., Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) and Jeb Johnson
(So., Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek HS) had 13 points each.
Mike Ludwig (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) had 11 points and eight
rebounds, and Justin Bonestroo (Fr., Stillwater, Minn.)
added eight rebounds.
Augsburg plays at Carleton on Wednesday night (2/16), while St.
Olaf plays at Hamline. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
