Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (12/4/99) -- Justin Wismer (Sr., Golden Valley,
Minn./Lakeville HS) scored 27 points, pulled down seven rebounds
and had three blocked shots Saturday, leading the Augsburg College
men's basketball team past Concordia-Moorhead 68-64 in a Minnesota
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Augsburg's
Si Melby Hall.
Augsburg and Concordia are both now 2-2 overall. The game was
the first MIAC contest for both teams.
Eighteen of Wismer's points came in the first half, as Augsburg
built a 39-29 halftime lead after leading by as many as 12 points.
But the Cobbers rallied to tie the game midway through the second
half and eventually take a five-point lead of their own.
The Auggies came back on the strength of Jeoffrey Reed (Sr.,
Minneapolis, Minn./De La Salle HS), who scored nine of his 11
points in a three-minute stretch, turning a 55-50 deficit into
a 59-57 Auggie lead with 4:52 remaining. The teams exchanged ties
twice more before the Auggies pulled away on the strength of free-throws.
John Anderson (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) added
11 points for the Auggies, while Matt Davis (Jr., Marshall,
Minn.) pulled down nine rebounds.
For Concordia, Jeff Ubben (So., Moorhead, Minn.) led the
way with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Greg North (Sr., Mt.
Pleasant, Australia/Fertile-Beltrami HS) contributed 10 points
and five rebounds before fouling out.
Joe Ford (Sr., Grand Forks, N.D./Grand Forks Central HS)
and Myke Syverson (So., Twin Valley, Minn./Norman County
East HS) had seven points apiece for the Cobbers.
Augsburg plays at Gustavus on Wednesday night (12/8) at 7:30 p.m.,
while Concordia hosts Carleton Wednesday, also at 7:30 p.m.
