Men's Golf 9/10/07 -- Augsburg Fall Invitational Final Round

CHASKA, Minn. (9/10/07) -- Claiming three golfers among the top five finishers, the Gustavus Adolphus College men's golf team claimed the championship at the Augsburg College Fall Invitational, completed Monday afternoon at the Chaska Town Course.

Eric Harris shot a 1-over-par 144 (72-72) to earn medalist honors for the Gusties. Four golfers finished second at 5-over-par 148 -- Ajee Sandhu and Jordan Hawkinson of Gustavus (Hawkinson for Gustavus Gold, Sandhu for Gustavus Black), and Joe Schoolmeesters and Joe Daly of St. John's.

The 14-school, 17-team tournament featured three teams ranked in the preseason Golf World/Nike Division III Coaches Poll by the Golf Coaches Association of America -- defending national champion St. John's (No. 1), Wisconsin-Eau Claire (No. 11) and Gustavus (No. 23). Sunday's first round was held at the Crow River Golf Club in Hutchinson, Minn.

Gustavus Gold won the event with a two-day, 36-hole total of 589 (290-299). St. John's Red finished second with a 606 total (307-299), Wisconsin-Eau Claire placed third at 612 (306-306), with Gustavus Black finishing fourth (614) and St. John's Blue finishing fifth (615).

Host Augsburg Maroon placed sixth in the meet with a 620 (313-307) total, with Augsburg Gray finishing 17th with a 680 (338-342) total

Competing in his first collegiate golf meet, Lucas Angrimson (Fr., Lindstrom, Minn./Chisago Lakes) led the Auggies with an 11th-place, 153 (76-77) total. Andrew Womeldorf (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) placed in a tie for 16th with a 154 (80-74) total, and Kevin Graff (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) placed in a tie for 35th with a 159 (75-84) total. Josh Henningson (Jr., Monticello, Minn.) placed 47th with a 161 total, and Billy Wiberg (Sr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) placed 49th with a 162 total.

Augsburg competes at the St. John's University Invitational next Saturday and Sunday (9/15-16) in Sauk Centre and Sartell, Minn.
