MINNEAPOLIS (2/23/08) -- Mario Mjelleli (FY, Faribault, Minn./Shattuck-St. Mary's HS) scored two goals and added an assist for a three-point night, and Chris Johnson (SO, Verona, Wis./Madison Memorial HS) assisted on four straight goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies used a three-goal second-period outburst and hung on for a 5-4, season-ending victory over St. Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey contest on Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Jim Jensen (FY, Plymouth, Minn./Osseo HS) scored a goal and added two assists, and Michael Henrichsen (SR, Bothell, Wash.), making his first collegiate varsity start in goal, collected 25 saves for the victory for Augsburg (6-17-2 overall, 4-12-2 MIAC).

Morgan Shepherd (SO, Brainerd, Minn.) had a goal and asist, and Anthony Bohn (SO, Spring Hill, Fla.) and Eric Dahl (So, St. Cloud, Minn.) had two assists apiece for St. Mary's (9-14-2 overall, 6-10-0 MIAC). It was the final game of the season for both teams.

Saturday's game featured 35 penalties for 154 minutes, after a first-period fight following the first goal of the game resulted in four ejections and 24 penalties.

After the two teams each scored goals in the first period, with Joel Sauer (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) scoring for Augsburg and Adam Gill (SR, Rochester, Minn.) scoring for St. Mary's, the Auggies erupted for four consecutive goals, with Mjelleli scoring twice and Jensen and Trevor McCormick (SR, Mankato, Minn./West HS) adding goals.

But St. Mary's scored three goals in a 2:40 span midway through the third period to cut the lead to its final margin, with Shepherd, Matt Staehely (SO, Shorewood, Ill.) and Jeff Miller (SO, Portage, Mich.) scoring. St. Mary's pulled its goalie with 1:10 left, but could not score with the extra skater.

St. Mary's outshot Augsburg by a 29-24 margin, including an 11-4 edge in the first period and 12-5 edge in the third period. Dan Smith (SR, Rochester, Minn.) made 19 saves in goal for St. Mary's.
