MINNEAPOLIS
(9/6/00) -- Kimani Williams (Jr., Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston
College) had a three-goal hat trick, leading his Macalester College
Scots to a 4-1 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference men's soccer game Wednesday evening at Anderson-Nelson
Field.
Williams opened
the scoring on an unassisted tally at the 30-minute mark, then
scored twice in the second half to break a close game wide open.
With the win, Macalester improves to 2-1 overall, while Augsburg
drops to 1-2 overall. The game was the first MIAC contest of the
season for both teams.
Nathan Knox
(Fr.,
Christchurch, New Zealand/Shirley HS) had the other Scot goal,
coming on a header off a free-kick at the 42-minute mark.
Augsburg's lone
goal came from Nate Shill (Fr., Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire
North HS), who notched his second goal of the season on a rebound
from Matt Lachner (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) with just over
nine minutes remaining.
Macalester outshot
Augsburg by a 17-8 mark in the game. Both teams used two goalkeepers.
Augsburg travels
to Crown College (Minn.) for a non-conference game Saturday (9/9)
at 12 noon, while Macalester returns to action next Wednesday
(9/13), hosting Viterbo (Wis.) at 7:30 p.m.
