MINNEAPOLIS
(9/26/02) -- Devin Homme (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South
HS) scored his first collegiate goal in the 66th minute, the only
goal Macalester College would need in topping host Augsburg College
1-0 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer
match Thursday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Homme completed
a fast-break play, as he was the recipient of a cross-field pass
from Brendan Viele (So., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS).
Viele stole an errant Augsburg pass in the Scots' defensive end
and sprinted about 60 yards along the left side of the field before
passing it to Homme on the right side, who completed the play
with a one-timer shot past Auggie goalie Chad Clausen (Fr.,
St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS).
With the win,
Macalester extended its unbeaten streak to six straight games
in moving to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in MIAC play. The win was
Macalester's fifth straight shutout; Macalester has outscored
its opponents 15-3 this season and exteneded its streak of not
allowing a goal to 504 straight minutes over the last six games.

well in a losing effort in one of its best defensive games of
the season. Clausen, who played all 90 minutes, made seven saves,
as Augsburg was outshot by a 16-7 margin. Mike Elcano (So.,
Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) led the Auggies with four shots.
