MINNEAPOLIS (10/15/03) -- Tudor Flintham (So., Norwich, U.K./Hewitt School for Boys) scored the only goal St. John's University would need in the ninth minute Wednesday night, as the Johnnies held on for a 1-0 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Edor Nelson Field.

Flintham deflected a 30-yard free kick from Tyler Bosch (Jr., Fargo, N.D./Shanley HS) over the head of Augsburg goalkeeper Lucas Grant (Jr., Starbuck, Minn./Minnewaska Area HS) to lift the Johnnies to 7-3-2 overall, 3-2-0 in MIAC play.

Augsburg drops to 4-9-2 overall, 0-7-1 in MIAC play. Augsburg is winless in its last nine games in a row, with seven losses and two ties. The Auggies have been shut out in their last five straight games, and Augsburg's scoreless streak is now at 540 straight minutes, spanning six games.

After St. John's scored, the teams played even soccer the rest of the way. Augsburg outshot St. John's by a 20-17 margin, and had several solid chances to score, especially in the second half, in which the Auggies outshot the Johnnies by an 11-8 margin.

Jason Clark (Sr., Eagan, Minn.), Aaron Riedel (So., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and Mike Elcano (Jr., Sparks, Nev./Bishop Manogue HS) had two shots apiece. Elcano was making his first game appearance for the Auggies after mising six games with a broken collarbone.

However, St. John's goalkeeper Eric Prawalsky (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) was up to the task, stopping eight shots to preserve the shutout, his fourth of the season. Grant made eight saves in a losing effort for the Auggies.

St. John's returns to action on Saturday (10/18), hosting St. Olaf in an MIAC game at 3:30 p.m. Augsburg returns to action with its last home game of the season next Wednesday (10/22) at 7 p.m., hosting Carleton at Edor Nelson Field.
