Augsburg College Sports Information Services

For more information, contact Don Stoner, Sports Information Director
(612) 330-1677, stoner@augsburg.edu

The Augsburg College Sports Information department is in charge of all public relations efforts involving the college's men's and women's varsity intercollegiate athletic teams. Augsburg's sports information office produces media guides, schedules and athletic publications; distributes news releases to hometown, regional and national media; maintains the athletics portion of the Augsburg web site; produces update materials for distribution on- and off-campus; produces materials for college publications and newsletters; works with Augsburg's radio broadcasting team; keeps statistical and historical files of college teams and individuals; and serves as spokesperson regarding athletic issues and public events.

Gameday services
Augsburg's Sports Information office produces gameday programs, which include rosters, detailed statistics and game notes. Opponents are asked to supply Augsburg -- either via e-mail, fax or with a link to availability on the web -- with detailed rosters, up-to-date statistics and season scores, for use in our gameday program no later than a day before the event.

Following a home event, Augsburg will supply all results to both home and visiting media. Augsburg always contacts the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press with scores and game story/statistics (where applicable), along with local TV and sports/news radio stations after football games (Twin Cities TV/radio does not run scores for other events).

Augsburg will also phone, fax or e-mail results and a game story/statistics to opponent media. Please contact the sports information office at least a day in advance of a game with media phone and fax numbers and/or e-mail addresses. Opposing teams are also free to use computers, phones and fax machines in the athletic office or sports information office. Please ask the sports information director or an athletic staff member for assistance.

Media members at Augsburg events may file stories from the press box, press row, or from the sports information office. The sports information office is located in the main intercollegiate athletic office in Si Melby Hall.

For home events, all game stories and statistics are posted on Augsburg's athletic website (www.augsburg.edu/athletics), usually within 90 minutes of an event's completion.

Statistics services
Augsburg uses the Stat Crew/Automated Scorebook statistics programs for football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's ice hockey, baseball and softball. Visiting teams that also use Stat Crew are asked to supply Augsburg's Sports Information office with Stat Crew roster files at least two days in advance of a game.

Augsburg uses the "in-game" functions of all Stat Crew programs, and will supply visiting teams and media with complete statistics, including written play-by-play, immediately following the game.

During games, Augsburg provides quarterly "flash" statistics in the press box for football, halftime statistics for basketball, and statistics/shot charts between periods for ice hockey. Between-game statistics are provided in volleyball and baseball/softball (doubleheaders).

Postgame, Augsburg will e-mail Stat Crew game files to opposing SIDs, and will also send game files to the MIAC office for conference statistics. If coaches or opposing SIDs would like Stat Crew files immediately after the game, please have a PC disk available and we will gladly take care of it.

All Augsburg season and game statistics are kept up-to-date and posted on Augsburg's athletic website (www.augsburg.edu/athletics). Augsburg will not fax advance statistics to opponents; opponents can find the information easily available on the web.

Augsburg follows all NCAA statistics guidelines, including guidelines for changing official statistics in case of an appeal or error. NCAA statistics guidelines are available in the NCAA Division III manual (Article 31.9), as well as on the NCAA website (www.ncaa.org).

Sport-specific services
For football, Augsburg produces a detailed game notes package, including a two-deep roster, which is available to media in the press box and posted on the college's athletic website on the Friday before the game. Opposing teams are asked to supply a two-deep roster, and any game notes they would like included, no later than Wednesday before the game.

For volleyball, Augsburg will provide complete statistics for home matches. However, for the Augsburg Invitational tournament in September, teams are responsible for their own statistics.

For men's and women's ice hockey, Augsburg also reports results and statistics of home games to the Collegehockeystats.com website, which maintains national statistics for Division III ice hockey. Augsburg also provides between-period statistics and shot charts during home games.

For wrestling, Augsburg does a detailed match play-by-play (not posted on the web, however, it is supplied to all teams involved) for all home matches. Tournament results are also posted online for the annual Auggie-Brute-Adidas tournament.

For baseball games at the Metrodome, Augsburg will provide statistics services for its games, regardless of whether it is the designated "home" or "away" team, due to its close proximity to the Metrodome. Out-of-Twin Cities teams should contact Augsburg if they need statistics sent to them.

Broadcast services
All Augsburg athletic venues are available for broadcasters to use free of charge. Three broadcast phone lines are available in Si Melby Hall (basketball, volleyball), two lines are available in the Edor Nelson Field press box (football, soccer, softball), and one broadcast line is available in the Augsburg Ice Arena (hockey).

All phone lines are "local-only" and do not have long-distance capabilities; radio stations must have a board operator call the on-site number, or the on-site broadcaster must have a toll-free number to use.

Radio/TV broadcasters are asked to confirm phone line availability with the sports information office at least one week in advance of a game.

Web services
All Augsburg athletic information is up-to-date on Augsburg's athletic website (www.augsburg.edu/athletics). Statistics, game stories, up-to-date news and player/coach biographies are all available online. Opponents are encouraged to find information online before contacting the sports information or athletic office with questions.
