Tony DoranNate AlmFemi SolajaJon CassensMINNEAPOLIS (3/13/08) -- Four Augsburg College men's basketball players were honored by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference recently with postseason honors.

Augsburg guard Jon Cassens (SO, Prior Lake, Minn.) and center Femi Solaja (SR, Cottage Grove, Minn./St. Paul Harding HS) were named to the All-MIAC squad, while forward Nate Alm (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) was an All-MIAC honorable-mention recipient. Guard Tony Doran (FY, Richfield, Minn./Trinity-River Ridge HS) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

For both Cassens and Solaja, it is the second year in a row that the duo have earned all-conference honors; last year, both players earned All-MIAC honorable-mention awards.

Cassens led the team in scoring for the second straight year, averaging 15.8 points per-game. He also contributed 37 three-pointers, 119 assists and 25 steals, to go along with 58 rebounds (2.3 rpg). Cassens finished the season ranked 10th in the MIAC in scoring in overall (15.8 ppg) play, while ranking 11th in the category in league play (16.1 ppg). In assists, Cassens ranked second in overall (4.76 apg) and third in league play (4.55 apg). He also ranked seventh among conference players in assist-to-turnover ratio in overall (1.42) play and eighth in league play (1.44). After just two seasons at Augsburg, Cassens already ranks 37th in school history in scoring (742 points) and seventh in career three-pointers (92).

Solaja finished the season as one of only two MIAC players (Macalester’s Tom Conboy is the other) to average a point-rebound double-double per game. In overall play, Solaja ranked 14th among MIAC players in scoring (14.6 ppg) and second in rebounding (10.1 rpg); in league play, Solaja ranked 19th in scoring (13.9 ppg) and second in rebounding (10.1 rpg). Solaja also led the league in field goal percentage in both overall (.626) and conference (.604) play; he currently ranks fifth among NCAA Division III players nationally in the category. In his two seasons at Augsburg, Solaja finished with 656 points (13.1 ppg) and 444 rebounds (8.9 rpg), ranking fourth in school history in career rebounds per-game. His .596 career field-goal percentage is second-best in school history.

In his first season at Augsburg after transferring from Minneapolis Community and Technical College, Alm finished third on the team in scoring (10.9 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.9 rpg). He ranked 23rd among MIAC players in overall scoring and fifth in overall rebounding, while ranking third in field-goal percentage (.565). In league games-only, Alm ranked 23rd in scoring (10.7 ppg), 10th in rebounding (6.2 rpg) and fourth in field-goal percentage (.555).

Doran was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team, a part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Doran appeared in six Augsburg varsity contests this season.

Under third-year head coach Aaron Griess, Augsburg finished 12-13 overall, 10-10 in MIAC play in the 2007-08 season. After starting the season 0-6, Augsburg won 12 of its final 19 games, including seven of its last nine, to finish the season with its second-straight double-digit win campaign and best record since finishing 12-13 in the 2000-01 season -- its last trip to the MIAC's postseason tournament.
