MINNEAPOLIS (3/17/08) -- The Augsburg College wrestling team placed 22nd in the National Wrestling Coaches Association's Division III Scholar All-America team program with a 3.2001 team grade-point-average, with three Auggies earning NWCA Division III Scholar All-American honors.

Earning individual Scholar All-American honors were Paul Bjorkstrand (JR, Burnsville, Minn.), a junior mathematics/economics major with a 3.472 GPA; Brandon Klukow (JR, Albert Lea, Minn.), a junior physics major with a 3.675 GPA; and Danny Manley (SR, Kearny, N.J.), a senior sociology major with a 3.62 GPA. Bjorkstrand and Klukow earned Scholar All-American honors for the second straight season, while Manley was honored for the first time.

Over the past 25 seasons, Augsburg has produced 103 NWCA Scholar All-Americans, the most of any college in any division in the nation. Augsburg has had at least three Scholar All-Americans every year since 1993, and has had 80 athletes honored since 1997. In order to qualify for individual Scholar All-America honors, student-athletes must have a 3.2 cumulative GPA or previous-year GPA, be enrolled at the institution for at least one full year, and have specific athletic credentials.

Augsburg has finished among the top 25 wrestling teams in the Scholar All-American team program every season since the program was started in 1998, and has had a team GPA of 3.2 or better every season during the 11 years of the program. Augsburg had the top GPA in the country in the 1999 season (3.480) and finished second three times (1998, 2000, 2006).

Members of the Augsburg Scholar All-America national team are: Bjorkstrand (133 pounds), Klukow (165 pounds), Manley (heavyweight), 125-pound national champion Seth Flodeen (JR, Cannon Falls, Minn.), 157-pound national tournament qualifier Beau Hansen (FY, Albert Lea, Minn.), 149-pound All-American Willy Holst (SO, Prescott, Wis.), Garrett Long (SO, Cedar, Minn./St. Francis HS, 184 pounds), 174-pound national tournament qualifier George Lynaugh (SR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS), Wallace O'Connor (SR, Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West HS, 197 pounds); and Ky Olsen (FY, Kansasville, Wis./Westosha Central HS, 125 pounds).
