Royce WinfordMINNEAPOLIS (9/15/08) -- Augsburg College wide receiver Royce Winford (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) was named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week for his efforts on both sides of the ball in Augsburg's 30-24, two-overtime win over No. 20-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) on Saturday at Edor Nelson Field, it was announced on Wednesday. It marks Winford's second award of the week, after being named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Playing both wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense, Winford caught eight passes for 87 yards, while also recording three tackles, an interception and a pass breakup on defense. He caught two key touchdowns in the fourth quarter and overtime. On a 4th-down-and-goal play from the 2-yard line, Winford caught a touchdown pass with 4:02 left in the fourth quarter, then intercepted a pass on defense on Wartburg's ensuing drive. In the first overtime, Winford caught a 15-yard scoring pass.

On the season, Winford has caught 18 passes for 195 yards (97.5 ypg) and four touchdowns. In his career, he now has 172 catches for 2,338 yards and 28 touchdowns, moving into a tie for second place in school history in career touchdowns and career receiving yardage, while standing in third place in career receptions.

This week's award marks the third time that Winford has been named to the national Team of the Week by D3Football.com, a national website that covers NCAA Division III football. He was named twice last season -- on Oct. 24, after catching an Augsburg and MIAC record 20 passes in a win over Carleton; and on Oct. 31, after a 17-catch, 206-yard performance in a win over Gustavus.

Augsburg is now 2-0 on the season, marking the first time Augsburg has started 2-0 since the 1999 campaign. Augsburg is idle this weekend, and returns to action with its Homecoming game against St. Olaf on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
