Auggie Volleyball (10-4 overall, 3-2 MIAC): Auggies defeat Gustavus in three straight games
The Augsburg volleyball team improved its overall record to 10-4 with a three-game victory over Gustavus at Si Melby Hall on Saturday. The Auggies won the first game 15-12, and never looked back, beating the Gusties 15-11, and 16-14 to record the win. Tasha Hamann had 38 assists for the Auggies, including 10 to Angie Rieger, who led the attack for the Auggies.

The Auggies also traveled to St. Thomas on Friday, falling to the Tommies in a tough five-game match. The Auggies lost the first game 15-8, but battled back, winning the next two games 15-12, and 15-10. St. Thomas came out on top however, winning the final two games 15-11, and 15-6. Adrianne Rieger had 13 kills for Augsburg in the match.

Auggie Football (3-1 overall, 2-1 MIAC): Auggies' winning streak ends
Augsburg's football team had won 10 straight MIAC contests going into Saturday's home game against St. John's. The Auggies played tough, leading 10-0 at halftime, but couldn't hold on, falling 19-13. The defense played solid throughout, creating four turnovers and limiting St. John's to 133 yards rushing. Andy Zigan led the way for the defense with 12 tackles, a forced fumble and two pass-breakups. Safety Jake Kern also had an impressive game, nailing 10 tackles.

For the offense, Tim Hamer was the go-to guy, grabbing eight catches for 86 yards. Kicker Martin Hlinka was perfect for Augsburg, putting through two field goals (43, 21) and making his only point-after attempt.

Penalties hurt Augsburg. The Auggies committed eight penalties, totaling 88 yards. Augsburg did have more possesion time than the Johnnies and had an 80-66 edge in total plays. Augsburg will try to get back on track when it visits undefeated Gustavus on Saturday in St. Peter. Last year's game at Gustavus was probably the game of the year in the MIAC, as the Auggies prevailed 41-35 in two overtimes.

Auggie Men's Golf: Auggies set for conference meet
The men's golf team continued to play solid golf as it prepares for this weekend's MIAC Tournament. The Augsburg I team traveled to one of the biggest college golf events of the fall, the Twin Cities Classic, played at three courses over three days. Augsburg placed ninth overall with a 952 total, the top MIAC team behind tourney winner Gustavus (909). Todd Tourand had the best overall finish for the Auggies, shooting a 228. His total included a tournament-low round of 71 in Sunday's second round. Kevin Sanft had a 237 total, while Kevin Van Rossum shot a 240.

The Augsburg II team competed at the Macalester Invitational in New Richmond, Wis., on Friday and Saturday, and finished second with a 698 total, two strokes behind the winning total of 696 from Minnesota-Morris. Adam Botten led the way for the Auggies with a 171 total.

This weekend, the Auggie golfers compete at the MIAC Championships at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids.

Auggie Women's Golf: Auggies get first ever All-MIAC golfer
Andrea Sievert
became the first women's golfer in Augsburg history to earn All-MIAC honors last weekend at the confderence meet at Oakland Country Club in Hutchinson, Minn.. Sievert shot 172, including a school-record 38 on her last nine holes to finish ninth overall in the tournament. Augsburg, which hosted the event, took ninth place as a team. Becky Esser was Augsburg's second finisher, shooting a 193 in the two-day event.

Auggie Cross Country: Auggies run to second-place finish at Eau Claire
When Christian Dawson finished his cross country race at Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday afternoon he looked back. Everyone was following him. Dawson, the first Auggie to win a race this season, ran the race in a personal-best time of 26:48, leading his team to a second-place finish overall. Lawrence Mboga and Zach Zander also had outstanding performances for the Auggies, finishing seventh and 10th respectively. Augsburg finished second out of five teams, behind only St. John's.

The women's team also competed at the Blugold Open last weekend. The women finished seventh in the event, led by Teresa Lewandowski, who finished 24th overall. Top runner Chrissy Baune didn't run for the Auggies this week, but she should be ready to go this Saturday for the Martin Luther Invitational.

------------------------------------------------------
Auggie Women's Soccer (1-6 overall, 0-4 MIAC): Auggies continue to struggle offensively
The defense has been tough, allowing only three goals in the last two games, unfortunately, the offense hasn't been able to put any points on the board and the Auggies lost both games. First the Auggies hosted Hamline in a rescheduled game Thursday and were shutout 2-0. The Pipers got goals in both halves to beat the Auggies.

Augsburg hosted Bethel in its second game of the week on Saturday. Augsburg gave up an early goal and wasn't able to rebound in the 1-0 loss. Goalie Beth Petrik made 13 saves in the game. The Auggies travel to St. Benedict for their next game on Tuesday.

------------------------------------------------------
Auggie Men's Soccer (2-7 overall, 0-4 MIAC):Auggies lose two games
Augsburg's men's soccer team had a rough week. First the Auggies lost an 8-1 game against Bethel on Wednesday, and then dropped a 2-1 game to Northland (Wis.) at Anderson-Nelson Field.

Against Northland the Auggies led 1-0, but weren't able to hold on for the victory, falling 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. St. John's is up next for the Auggies at home on Wednesday, before they travel to Washington D.C. for a nonconference matchup against Gallaudet on Saturday.
