MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College will honor 10 of the top athletes in school history during Homecoming weekend, with the annual Athletic Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony.

The annual banquet will be held Friday, Oct. 12 at the Christensen Center. A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the banquet to follow at 6:15 p.m. Banquet tickets are $15. For more information on the banquet and to make reservations, contact Irene Steenson at (612) 330-1245.

The Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1973 to recognize male athletes who made special contributions to the college's athletic history. In 1989, female athletes were first inducted into the hall. Recipients are chosen each year on the basis of performance in Augsburg athletics, service to the school, civic and professional achievements and leadership.

Honored in this year's class of inductees into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame are:

-- Richard Bain '80 (men's hockey) A 1979 NAIA All-American, Bain was a key goalie for Auggie men's hockey teams that won the national title in 1978, earned NAIA national tournament appearances three times in his career and earned MIAC championships all four seasons. He had a career goals-against-average of 3.47.

-- Jeff Blixt 77 (wrestling) An NAIA All-American in 1977, Blixt won three MIAC championships at 177 pounds (1975, 1976, 1977). The Auggies finished in the top 10 in the NAIA national championship race three times in his career, including a second-place finish in 1975.

-- Greg Boone '81 (men's basketball) Boone scored 1,258 career points in two seasons at Augsburg, good for ninth in school history. An NAIA All-American in 1981, he became one of only three Augsburg basketball players ever drafted by the NBA, when the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him in the 1981 draft. He was a part of MIAC title teams in 1980 and 1981.

-- Karen Sterner Engel '87 (women's track and field) A six-time track and field All-American, Sterner qualified for the NCAA national championships in both the 100-meter hurdles and heptathlon in 1986 and 1987. She was the school's Honor Athlete in 1987.

-- John Fahlberg '68 (football, baseball) A two-year starter at quarterback for the Auggies, Fahlberg completed 152 passes for 1,967 yards and 13 touchdowns in his Auggie career, all totals in the top 15 in school history. He was also a four-year pitcher for the Auggie baseball team.

-- Ronnie Henderson '81 (men's basketball) In two seasons at Augsburg (1979-81), Henderson scored 904 career points, good for 19th-best in school history, averaging 10.9 points per game. He was a member of two MIAC championship teams (1980, 1981) at Augsburg.

-- Carolyn Ross Isaak '89 (women's track and field) The most decorated student-athlete in school history, Ross won five individual national championships in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, earning All-American honors nine times. Her outdoor 400-meter hurdles 1989 championship time of 58.99 seconds is still an NCAA Division III national record. She was the school's women's Honor Athlete in 1989.

-- William Lundgren '73 (men's hockey, football) Lundgren scored 44 goals and had 49 assists for 93 points in his men's hockey career, as his teams earned NAIA national tournament trips twice. He was also a halfback for the Auggie football team for three seasons, gaining 391 career yards.

-- Philip Olson '76 (men's soccer) A three-time All-MIAC selection, Olson was a key member of Auggie men's soccer teams that won three straight MIAC titles (1973, 1974, 1975), with a combined record of 39-7-2 over those three seasons. The team made NAIA regional tournament play each of those seasons.

-- Julie Goldstein Yeazle '83 (women's basketball, softball) A two-time all-state and all-region selection in softball, she was named the school's women's Honor Athlete in 1983. She scored 111 runs and had 56 RBI in her softball career.
