Augsburg
to induct 10 into school's Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday

MINNEAPOLIS
-- Augsburg College will honor 10 of the top athletes in school
history during Homecoming weekend, with the annual Athletic Hall
of Fame banquet and induction ceremony.
The annual
banquet will be held Friday, Oct. 12 at the Christensen Center.
A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the banquet to follow
at 6:15 p.m. Banquet tickets are $15. For more information on

The Augsburg
Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1973 to recognize male
athletes who made special contributions to the college's athletic
history. In 1989, female athletes were first inducted into the
hall. Recipients are chosen each year on the basis of performance
in Augsburg athletics, service to the school, civic and professional
achievements and leadership.
Honored
in this year's class of inductees into the Augsburg Athletic
Hall of Fame are:
-- Richard
Bain '80
(men's hockey) A 1979 NAIA All-American, Bain was a key
goalie for Auggie men's hockey teams that won the national title
in 1978, earned NAIA national tournament appearances three times
in his career and earned MIAC championships all four seasons.
He had a career goals-against-average of 3.47.
-- Jeff
Blixt 77
(wrestling) An NAIA All-American in 1977, Blixt won three
MIAC championships at 177 pounds (1975, 1976, 1977). The Auggies
finished in the top 10 in the NAIA national championship race
three times in his career, including a second-place finish in
1975.
-- Greg
Boone '81
(men's basketball) Boone scored 1,258 career points in
two seasons at Augsburg, good for ninth in school history. An
NAIA All-American in 1981, he became one of only three Augsburg
basketball players ever drafted by the NBA, when the Cleveland
Cavaliers selected him in the 1981 draft. He was a part of MIAC
title teams in 1980 and 1981.

Sterner Engel '87
(women's track and field) A six-time track and field All-American,
Sterner qualified for the NCAA national championships in both
the 100-meter hurdles and heptathlon in 1986 and 1987. She was
the school's Honor Athlete in 1987.

Fahlberg '68
(football, baseball) A two-year starter at quarterback
for the Auggies, Fahlberg completed 152 passes for 1,967 yards
and 13 touchdowns in his Auggie career, all totals in the top
15 in school history. He was also a four-year pitcher for the
Auggie baseball team.

Henderson '81
(men's basketball) In two seasons at Augsburg (1979-81),
Henderson scored 904 career points, good for 19th-best in school
history, averaging 10.9 points per game. He was a member of two
MIAC championship teams (1980, 1981) at Augsburg.
-- Carolyn
Ross Isaak '89
(women's track and field) The most decorated student-athlete
in school history, Ross won five individual national championships
in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, earning All-American
honors nine times. Her outdoor 400-meter hurdles 1989 championship
time of 58.99 seconds is still an NCAA Division III national
record. She was the school's women's Honor Athlete in 1989.

Lundgren '73
(men's hockey, football) Lundgren scored 44 goals and had
49 assists for 93 points in his men's hockey career, as his teams
earned NAIA national tournament trips twice. He was also a halfback
for the Auggie football team for three seasons, gaining 391 career
yards.
-- Philip Olson '76 (men's soccer) A three-time
All-MIAC selection, Olson was a key member of Auggie men's soccer
teams that won three straight MIAC titles (1973, 1974, 1975),
with a combined record of 39-7-2 over those three seasons. The
team made NAIA regional tournament play each of those seasons.

Goldstein Yeazle '83
(women's basketball, softball) A two-time all-state and
all-region selection in softball, she was named the school's
women's Honor Athlete in 1983. She scored 111 runs and had 56
RBI in her softball career.
