Garrett AdamsonMINNEAPOLIS (10/11/07) -- Augsburg College free safety Garrett Adamson (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week, and was also named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week for his accomplishments in the Auggies' 14-13 nonconference win at No. 10/11 Wartburg (Iowa) on Saturday, it was announced this week.

Adamson led the Auggies with 17 tackles (nine solo), including 0.5 tackles for loss, and had the game-clinching interception at the Augsburg 1-yard line with 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter, as Augsburg claimed the upset victory at Wartburg. The interception was Adamson's third of the season. Adamson now is tied for the team's lead in tackles with 47 (29 solo).

The D3Football.com Team of the Week recognizes the outstanding performances from throughout the country in NCAA Division III football. The Team of the Week is selected by D3Football.com staff and contributors from players nominated by sports information directors, coaches and conference offices.

Saturday's victory was Augsburg's first over a nationally ranked team since a 34-22 win in the NCAA Division III national playoffs over Concordia-Moorhead (No. 21) at the Fargodome on Nov. 21, 1997. Augsburg was ranked No. 14 nationally at the time. Augsburg had lost its last 16 games to nationally-ranked teams before Saturday's win.

The Auggies, now 2-3 on the season and 0-3 in MIAC play, host St. Thomas (1-4 overall, 1-2 MIAC) in Augsburg's Homecoming game on Saturday (10/13) at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis.
