Auggie Volleyball (11-4 overall, 4-2 MIAC): Volleyball team
continues to impress
With a convincing 3-1 match victory (15-11, 15-8, 11-15,
15-10) over St. Catherine last Wednesday, the Auggies upped their
record to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC. Eleven victories
this season matches the total number of wins for the Auggies
all last season. Jessica Ness played a stellar match
for the Auggies, putting down 14 kills in the four games. Adrianne
Rieger and Missy Carlson also played well, killing
12 and 11 shots respectively. Tasha Hamann continued
to direct the team on the floor, collecting 44 of the Auggies
47 total assists.
Next for the Auggies, St. Olaf comes to town. The Oles are
always one of the top teams in the MIAC, and Augsburg is challenging
the Oles and St. Benedict for conference supremacy this year.
This year the Auggies and the Oles will battle in Si Melby Hall
on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Auggie Football (3-2 overall, 2-2 MIAC): Auggies lose second
straight game
Three weeks ago, the football team had the greatest winning
streak in the history of the program, with 10 straight MIAC wins.
Now the Auggies have another streak going -- one they hope to
end soon. The Auggies dropped their second straight game to
the Gustavus Gusties in St. Peter last Saturday.
The Augsburg offense, which hasn't been as productive as hoped
this season, only got to the end zone once in the 21-7 loss.
Scott Hvistendahl moved ever closer to the NCAA Division
III receiving record with 198 yards on 14 catches, including
a 78-yard touchdown pass from Paul Tetzloff.
The defense played a tough game, led by Joe Souba with
10 tackles. Andy Zigan and Todd Hamer each had
interceptions for the Auggies in the game. The Auggies will
try to get back on track when they host Macalester Saturday at
1 p.m. in the 1998 Augsburg College Homecoming game. Augsburg
now has a 3-2 record, 2-2 in the MIAC.

Auggie Men's Golf: Tourand wins MIAC Tournament
The Augsburg men's golf team finished third at the MIAC Tournament
at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids over the weekend.
The Auggies were led by senior Todd Tourand, who finished
tied for first place with J.P. Prenevost of Gustavus.
Tourand fired a one-under-par 71 in the first day of competition,
but slipped a little with a 79 on the second day.
Along with Tourand, Mark LaBounty also earned All-MIAC
honors with his 10th-place finish. LaBounty shot 77-80--157
to finish seven strokes off the lead. As a team, the Auggies
were just four strokes behind Gustavus after the first day, but
weren't able to keep up the pace as the Gusties won their third
straight championship. Augsburg finished third as a team, behind
Gustavus and Concordia-Moorhead.
---------------------------------------------
Auggie Women's Soccer (1-8 overall, 0-5 MIAC): Auggies drop
a pair of 3-1 games
The women's soccer team played twice last week, losing to both
St. Benedict and Rockford 3-1. Against St. Benedict on Tuesday,
the Auggies got behind early, trailing 3-0 at the half. The
Auggies were able to get on the board, thanks to Brenda Selander's
second-half goal, but it wasn't enough.
Augsburg then hosted Rockford College of Illinois on Sunday.
Augsburg played tough, trailing only 1-0 at the half. Rockford
got another goal before Augsburg cut the gap to one on Selander's
second goal of the week. Augsburg wasn't able to get back on
the board however, and Rockford added a late goal to secure the
win.
Augsburg has three games this week, hosting St. Olaf on Tuesday,
and then travelling to Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday and Wisconsin-River
Falls on Monday.

Auggie Men's Soccer (3-8 overall, 0-5 MIAC): Auggies win marathon
game
It took two extra periods to decide a winner, but the Augsburg
Auggies made their trip to Washington D.C. a successful one with
a 2-1 double-overtime win against Gallaudet on Saturday. The
victory gave Augsburg its third win of the season and its first
since Sept. 7. Scott Dossett had both goals for the Auggies,
including the game-winner in the second extra session. Morgan
Davidsen picked up the win for the Auggies, making five saves.
The Auggies also hosted MIAC rival St. John's last Wednesday.
Augsburg jumped out to an early lead, getting a goal from Scott
Robertson 30 minutes into the first half. Augsburg wasn't
able to score again however, as St. John's got three unanswered
goals to win the game.

Auggie Cross Country: Auggie men run away with Martin Luther
Invitational
For the second straight week, a runner from Augsburg College
won a men's cross country race. Last week it was Christian
Dawson who won the Wisconsin-Eau Claire race. This time
Dawson finished second to teammate Eric Bloemendal, who
took first place in the Martin Luther Invitational last weekend.
Augsburg runners controlled the race nailing all four top spots.
Behind Bloemendal and Dawson were Lawrence Mboga in third
and Zach Zander in fourth. The Augsburg men's cross country
team took first place, beating the second-place team by 25 points.
Teresa Lewandowski paced the women's team in their
third-place finish. Lewandowski placed sixth overall, one place
better than teammate Chrissy Baune. Next the Auggies
travel to LaCrosse on Saturday for the Wisconsin-LaCrosse Invitational.
