Auggie
Football (4-2 overall, 3-2 MIAC): H.R.H. Scott Hvistendahl
leads Auggies to win
After losing two straight games, the Augsburg football team
was asking itself a lot of questions going into last week's Homecoming
game against Macalester. The Auggies answered some of those question
in their 28-7 win over the Scots. Homecoming King Scott Hvistendahl
caught three touchdowns from quarterback Paul Tetzloff
in the first half to secure the win. The Auggies led the Scots
28-7 at halftime, and weren't able to get the ball in the end
zone again. Hvistendahl had 136 yards on eight catches, while
Tim Hamer also had eight catches for 100 yards and a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Steve Sathre led
the charge with three tackles for loss including one sack. Linebacker
Joe Souba had eight tackles for Augsburg in the win. The
Auggies next will look to avenge last season's lone MIAC loss
when they travel to St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon. The Tommies
won last season's contest 28-12, but the Auggies played without
the services of Hvistendahl and cornerback Jason Exley.

Auggie
Volleyball (12-6 overall, 5-4 MIAC): Tough week slows Augsburg's
momentum
Going into last Wednesday's showdown with rival St. Olaf,
the Augsburg volleyball team was 11-4 overall with a 4-2 record
in the MIAC. The Auggies were ranked No. 9 in the Central Region
and were looking to upset the No. 3-ranked Oles. It didn't work
out for the Auggies however, as they ran into stiff resistance
from St. Olaf, losing in three games (15-11, 15-2, 15-4). For
a while it was close; the Auggies fought hard in the first game,
trailing at one point 14-6. The climbed back to 14-11, but the
Oles were too strong and Augsburg wasn't able to get back into
the match.
The Auggies looked good in their next contest, knocking off
the Carleton Knights in three straight games (15-10, 15-8, 15-10)
on Friday. Cassi Van Ausdall provided some offensive punch
for the Auggies with 10 kills in the three games.
The Auggies couldn't continue the winning ways however as
the lost the next day to Bethel in a tough five-game match (17-15,
12-15, 15-10, 10-15, 15-13). In the Bethel match Missy Carlson
and Adrianne Rieger powered the Auggies killing 17 shots
apiece. Tasha Hamann had 55 assists for Augsburg in the
match.

Auggie
Women's Soccer (1-9 overall, 0-6 MIAC): Auggies still winless
in MIAC play
The Auggies women's soccer team is still in search of its
first conference win after losing last week 2-0 to St. Olaf.
The Auggies held the Oles scoreless in the first half, but weren't
able to keep the shut out going. Goalie Beth Petrik withstood
17 St. Olaf shots and surrendered just two goals.
Augsburg traveled to Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday looking
to end the winless streak, but the game was postponed due to
poor weather conditions. That game versus the Cobbers will be
played on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the Blake School in Minneapolis.

Men's Soccer (3-8-1 overall, 0-5-1 MIAC): Auggies tie Hamline
1-1
For the second time in two weeks, the Augsburg men's soccer
team played a two-overtime game. The first time it beat Gallaudet
2-1, the second time last Thursday, the Auggies weren't able
to pull out the victory, tying Hamline 1-1. The teams played
to a scoreless first half before Hamline broke the scoring drought
six minutes into the second half.
Forward Scott Dossett got the Auggies on the board
with his goal with 10 minutes left in regulation. The Auggies
and the Pipers then played the rest of regulation and two overtime
periods before the game ended in a draw. Goalie Morgan Davidsen
helped keep the Auggies out of the loss column by only allowing
one goal in the entire 120-minute game.
The Auggies were scheduled to play Concordia-Moorhead in Moorhead
last weekend but the game had to be called on account of rain.
The game will be made up Thursday, Oct. 22 at St. John's, with
game time at 3:30 p.m.
