Auggie
Football (4-3 overall, 3-3 MIAC): Auggies lose hard-fought
game in double overtime
At one point during Saturday's game at St. Thomas, the Augsburg
football team was behind 21-3. The Auggies battled back, however,
knotting the score at 21-21. The teams took the game to overtime
where St. Thomas won 29-28 on a two-point conversion. Augsburg
had a 28-21 lead after its possession in the second overtime,
but wasn't able to hold on.
Big plays were the story for St. Thomas in the game. The Tommies
had an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game, and
later had a 99-yard touchdown pass. Other than those two plays,
the Auggie defense had a wonderful game, led by Jake Kern's
10 tackles. Unfortunately for the Auggies, it wasn't enough,
as they turned the ball over 4 times, and created no turnovers
of their own.
Scott Hvistendahl continued his assult on the national
record books with a 15-catch, 252-yard performance. Hvistendahl
now has 4,037 yards, only the third player in NCAA Division III
history to accomplish this feat. Hvistendahl is now just 274
yards away from the all-time Division III record.
Kicker Martin Hlinka added two field goals to become
the school's all-time leading place-kicker with 19 career field-goals.

Auggie
Volleyball (13-9 overall, 5-5 MIAC): Auggies finish third
in UW-LaCrosse Tournament
The volleyball team headed down the Mississippi River to LaCrosse
last weekend for the UW-LaCrosse Invitational. The Auggies opened
the tournament by whipping Viterbo College (15-3, 15-10, 15-4)
on Friday. All-Tournament Team selection Tasha Hamann
had 22 assists for the Auggies in the three games.
On Saturday, the Auggies took on MIAC rival St. Mary's, losing
in four games (9-15, 15-8, 16-14, 15-7). Augsburg's other All-Tournament
Team selection, Adrianne Rieger, had 15 kills in that
match. Augsburg's final opponent in the tournament Saturday was
the host school. UW-LaCrosse handled the Auggies, winning in
three games (15-11, 15-3, 15-4). Rieger had 11 kills against
LaCrosse. There was some good news for the Auggies in the tournament.
Star hitter Angie Rieger returned from an ankle injury
and saw limited action in during the weekend.
The Auggies also played Concordia-Moorhead last Tuesday at
Si Melby Hall. The Auggies lost a tough five-game match to the
Cobbers (11-15, 16-14, 8-15, 15-4, 11-15). Adrianne Rieger
had another dominating performance with 18 kills on the day.

Auggie
Women's Soccer (1-12 overall, 0-8 MIAC): Auggies defensive
struggles continue
Augsburg's women's soccer team continued to problems on both
ends of the field as it lost three shutout games last week. First
the Auggies hosted the Gustavus Gusties on Wednesday. Gustavus
scored three goals in the first half and two in the second to
win the game 5-0.
The Auggies next took on the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers in
a game Friday that was postponed from a week earlier. Concordia
got the best of the Auggies with an 8-0 victory. Finally the
Auggies headed down to Iowa to play Cornell College on Sunday.
The Auggies again fell behind early, trailing 3-0 after the first
half before losing 4-0. The Auggies close out the season this
week with games at Macalester and St. Mary's.

Auggie
Men's Soccer (3-9-1 overall, 0-6-1 MIAC): Auggies shut out
by Concordia
Just five minutes into their game with the Concordia-Moorhead
Cobbers on Thursday, the Auggies found themselves trailing 1-0,
and they were never able to make up the ground, falling to Concordia
3-0. This game was a makeup game, held at St. John's University,
that was postponed last week due to rain.
The Auggies have three MIAC games left, including this week's
game against national power Macalester. The Auggies hope to upset
the Scots at home for their first conference win.
