Football (5-3 overall, 4-3 MIAC): Auggies defeat Carleton
in a tight game
It was a wild affair, but the Auggies came out on top of a
31-28 struggle against Carleton last Saturday, Augsburg's first
win at Carleton since 1978.
The Auggies jumped out to a 10-7 lead at half, thanks to a
Scott Hvistendahl touchdown and a Martin Hlinka
field goal. In the second half, Augsburg got three more touchdowns,
including two from Hvistendahl, but had trouble containing the
Knights' offense. Paul Tetzloff had four touchdown passes
on the day as the Auggies rolled up 508 yards of total offense.
Hvistendahl had 12 catches for 183 yards, adding to his season
total of 1,384, which is a new Augsburg single-season record.
Hvistendahl, who now has 4,220 career receiving yards, now needs
just 91 yards to break the all-time NCAA Division III record
for receiving yardage.
Todd Hamer had nine tackles to lead the Auggies. Jake
Kern had an interception and four tackles. The Auggies defense
had trouble with the Carleton passing game, allowing 280 yards
passing.
Next up for Augsburg is Bethel College on Saturday at Anderson-Nelson
Field. Last season, the Auggies beat the Royals 56-22 in the
MIAC finale at the Metrodome.

Volleyball (14-9 overall, 6-5 MIAC): Auggies finish MIAC
season with a victory
The Augsburg volleyball team ended the MIAC regular season
with a four-game victory over Macalester last Wednesday. The
Auggies lost the first game 15-10, but bounced back strong to
win the next three games (15-7, 15-9, 15-11). Jessica Ness
led the Augsburg attack with 14 kills. Adrianne Reiger and
Missy Carlson both had double-figure kills in the match.
Tasha Hamann had 48 assists in the winning effort.
This week the Auggies have one final regular-season match
against Concordia-St. Paul before heading into the MIAC Tournament.
Augsburg heads into the tournament, which will played at St.
Benedict, with the No. 6 seed. Augsburg will open the tournament
with Carleton, which the Auggies swept in three games in October.

Women's Soccer (1-15 overall, 0-10 MIAC): Auggies finish
season winless in MIAC
The women's soccer team's season ended Saturday with a 3-0
loss to St. Mary's. The Auggies struggled this year on offense,
scoring only five goals the entire season. Augsburg's only win
came against Wartburg in the first game of the season.
Last Wednesday, the Auggies traveled to St. Paul to play Macalester,
where they were beaten 4-0. The Auggies then traveled to Winona
to play St. Mary's. In the 3-0 loss to St. Mary's, goalie Beth
Petrik made 18 saves.

Auggie
Men's Soccer (4-11-1 overall, 0-8-1 MIAC): Auggies
get 1-0 win over UW-Superior
The Auggies lost two MIAC games last week, but were able to
rebound and came back to beat UW-Superior 1-0 on Sunday. John
Fehrman scored on a pass from Eric Roy in the first
half to give the Auggies the lead en route to breaking a three-game
losing streak. Morgan Davidsen made nine saves to pick
up the win in goal.
Augsburg opened the week against MIAC power Macalester. Augsburg
spotted the Scots a two-goal lead 15 minutes into the game and
were never able to make up ground. Macalester scored two goals
in the second half for a 4-0 win. The Auggies also played St.
Mary's last week, losing 5-0 after giving up four first-half
goals. The Auggies wrap up their season when they visit Gustavus
on Saturday.
