Augsburg's Nick Manders named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men's soccer team ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA PROGRAM -- CLICK HERE
Manders is Augsburg's first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-America selection in men's soccer, and the 20th CoSIDA Academic All-American selection for Augsburg in school history. A defender, Manders was named to the All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team this season. He led the Auggies in scoring this season with seven goals and two assists for 16 points, including three game-winning goals. Manders transferred to Augsburg in 2006 after spending his first two seasons at the University of Minnesota. In 35 Augsburg games (27 starts), he claimed 11 goals and three assists for 25 points, including four game-winning goals. A health and physical education major with a 3.90 grade-point average, Manders earned Academic All-MIAC honors last season. Under third-year head coach Greg Holker, the Auggie men's soccer team finished 9-9-0 overall, 5-5-0 in MIAC play this season. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program is administered by CoSIDA. Top student-athletes from non-Division I programs, who have already earned Academic All-District first-team honors, are eligible for inclusion on the College Division team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.20 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. The Academic All-America ballot is voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. Also from the MIAC, Gustavus Adolphus College goalkeeper Trevor Brown (SR, Madison, Wis.) earned Academic All-America second-team honors. Brown is a political science major with a 3.85 GPA.
