Brandon RudenickJordan BergRoyce WinfordMINNEAPOLIS (12/10/08) -- Augsburg College football player Royce Winford (SR, Brookyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) was named as the West Region Offensive Player of the Year by D3football.com, and teammates Jordan Berg (SR, Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East HS) and center Brandon Rudenick (SR, Nicollet, Minn.) joined Winford on the D3football.com All-West Region squad, it was announced on Wednesday.

Winford, a wide receiver/cornerback, was named to the D3football.com All-West Region first team, while Berg, a quarterback, and Rudenick, a center, were named to the second team. The 75-member All-West Region teams were selected from a pool of 154 nominations in balloting by West Region sports information directors and the staff of D3football.com, a national website that covers NCAA Division III football.

The honor is the latest for Winford, who was also named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year this season. He earned All-West Region first-team honors for the second straight year. It was the first All-West Region honor for both Berg and Rudenick, who joined Winford as All-MIAC first-team honorees this season.

Winford caught 93 passes for 1,139 yards, his second straight 1,000-yard receiving season and the fifth-most receiving yards in a single season in school history. Winford tied his single-season school record with 16 touchdowns. He finished his career with 247 catches for 3,282 yards -- both totals second-most in school history, and tied Augsburg legend Scott Hvistendahl (1995-98) for the school's career records for both overall touchdowns (41) and receiving touchdowns (40). Playing on defense for the first time in his career, Winford finished with four interceptions, three pass breakups and 11 tackles (eight solo) as a cornerback.

Nationally, Winford stands fourth among NCAA Division III receivers in receptions per-game (9.30), seventh in receiving yards per-game (113.90), 12th in total receiving yardage (1,139) and 23rd in scoring (98 points, 9.80 points per-game).

In MIAC overall statistics, Winford led the conference in receiving yardage per-game and scoring, while standing second in receptions per-game, third in all-purpose yardage and sixth in interceptions. In league games-only, Winford led the league in scoring (76 points) and receiving yardage (944), while standing second in receptions per-game (75, 9.38 per-game) and receiving yardage per-game (118.0 yards per-game), fourth in all-purpose yardage per-game (120.1) and sixth in interceptions (3).

Berg completed 297-of-499 passes for 3,226 yards and 25 touchdowns against just 14 interceptions this season, the completion total a single-season school record. Each of the other passing totals were the second-most in a single season in school history, behind his numbers from 2007. Nationally, Berg stands second among Division III quarterbacks in completions per-game (29.70), fourth in passing yardage per-game (322.60), ninth in total passing yardage (3,226), ninth in total offense yardage per-game (314.2) and 22nd in points responsible for per-game (17.00). Berg led the MIAC in passing yardage per-game and total offense in both overall (322.6, 314.2) and conference games-only (333.4, 320.6).

Berg ended his Augsburg career as the top passing quarterback in school history. In three seasons at Augsburg, Berg finished with 8,777 passing yards (292.6 yards per-game) on 796-of-1,350 pasing with 74 touchdowns -- all school records. Berg also holds the MIAC's career passing yardage record (conference games-only) with 7,414 yards in 24 league games.

This season, Berg was named as one of 10 finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy, given to the top student-athlete in Division III football. A physics major with a 3.80 grade-point average, he was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first team this season.

In his first year as Augsburg's starting center after missing last season due to injury, Rudenick led an offense that averaged 378.3 yards per-game (second-best in the MIAC and 64th-best nationally), including a passing average of 325.5 yards per-game -- tops among MIAC teams and fifth-best nationally among Division III teams -- while surrendering just 22 sacks. Rudenick has been a versatile lineman, playing both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball in his career. Rudenick was also a team co-captain this season.

Under fourth-year head coach Frank Haege, Augsburg finished 5-5 overall, 3-5 in MIAC play, duplicating its record from 2007. Augsburg opened its season with four straight victories, including its second win in a row over nationally-ranked Wartburg (Iowa) in nonconference play, a 30-24 overtime win on Sept. 13.
