Track and Field 2/29-3/1/08 -- Augsburg at St. Olaf meets
WOMEN'S MEET RESULTS -- CLICK HERE NORTHFIELD, Minn. (2/29-3/1/08) -- Whitney Holman (SO, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) claimed a victory in the women's 55-meter dash and a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash, leading the Augsburg College track and field squads at events at St. Olaf College over the weekend. At Friday's Ole Open, Holman won the 55-meter dash in a season-best 7.45 seconds, the fastest time run by a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference female in the event so far this indoor season. Her 26.97-second, third-place finish in the 200-meter dash is the fourth-fastest time run in the MIAC in the event so far this season. At Saturday's St. Olaf The Qualifier men's meet, Nick Ward (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.) led the Auggies with a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash (6.63 seconds), while adding a 15th-place finish in the 200 (23.67 seconds) and 12th-place finish in the long jump (5.99 meters/19-feet, 8.0-inches). Ward's season-best 6.62-second effort in the 55, run earlier this seaosn, is the seventh-fastest time run by an MIAC male this indoor season in the event. For the Auggie women, Gaby Hamerlinck (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park HS) placed fourth in the high jump in a season-best 1.46 meters (4-feet, 9.5-inches), while Jenny Lovering (FY, Bemidji, Minn.) placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run in a season-best 3:08.88. Kim Carlson (FY, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) placed ninth in the 800-meter run in a season-best 2:31.88. For the Auggie men, Josh Groll (SO, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) claimed two top-10 finishes in weight events, finishing sixth in the shot put in 13.33 meters (43-feet, 9.0-inches) and eighth in the 35-pound weight throw (14.89 meters/48-feet, 10.25-inches), both season-bests. Shane Pantila (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) placed ninth in both events (12.64 meters/41-feet, 5.75-inches in shot put, 14.08 meters/46-feet, 2.5-inches in weight throw). Adam Horkey (SO, Windom, Minn.) and David Nestrud (SO, Braham, Minn.) placed seventh and ninth, respectively, in the men's 55-meter hurdles (8.48 and 8.52), while James Strand (SO, Brainerd, Minn.) placed 10th in the 400-meter dash (51.80 seconds). Augsburg competes at the MIAC indoor championships this Friday and Saturday (3/7-8) at St. John's University in Collegeville.
