LA CROSSE, Wis. (5/15/08) -- Kevin Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) achieved an NCAA Division III national championships provisional qualifying distance in the men's triple jump, as he was one of two Augsburg men's track and field athletes in competition at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Last Chance Qualifier meet on Thursday evening.

Haglund finished second in the triple jump at the La Crosse meet with a distance of 14.14 meters (46-feet, 4.75-inches), eclipsing the NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 14.00 meters (45-feet, 11.25-inches). Haglund broke his old school record in the triple jump with a 14.27-meter (46-feet, 10.0-inches) effort at the Hamline Meet of the UnSaintly on May 4, but the distance could not be considered for national qualification due to wind conditions at the meet.

According to the Raceberry Jam website, Haglund's distance from Thursday's meet currently stands 33rd nationally among the 44 individuals who have reached the NCAA provisional qualifing distance. The automatic qualifying distance is 14.80 meters (48-feet, 6.75-inches). Last year, 17 athletes qualified to compete in the triple jump at the NCAA championships.

The NCAA Division III national championships will be held May 22-24 at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Final entries for the championships will be announced on Sunday (5/18).

Brent Haglund (SO, Fridley, Minn.) also competed for Augsburg at the La Crosse meet in the men's 5,000-meter run, finishing 14th with a time of 15:35.00. His time fell short of the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14:48.00 in the event. His season-best time was 15:21.50.
