MINNEAPOLIS (10/20/04) -- Lisa Otto (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Southwest Christian HS) claimed 16 kills and hit .519, while teammate Liz Glesne (Fr., Underwood, Minn.) had 11 kills and hit .500, leading Bethel University to a three-game sweep over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.

The Royals hit .217 as a team (58 kills, 20 errors in 175 attempts) to claim the victory by scores of 30-26, 30-21 and 30-25 in improving to 8-16 overall, 3-7 in MIAC play. Augsburg dropped its fourth match in a row to fall to 9-14 overall, 1-9 in MIAC play.

Otto claimed 16 kills, with just two errors in 27 attacks. Meanwhile, Glesne did not have an error with 11 kills in 22 attempts. Kimmie Moehring (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) had nine kills, 17 digs and two blocks, while Kari Eakins (Jr., Lingle, Wyo./Lingle-Fort Laramie HS) had nine kills and four blocks (one solo).

Meanwhile, Augsburg was paced by Sarah Bradley (Fr., International Falls, Minn.), who claimed her sixth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs. Kristy Larson (Sr., Pine Island, Minn.) had 10 kills and two blocks (one solo). Linnea Evans (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) had eight kills and 17 digs, and Billie Painschab (Jr., Howard Lake, Minn./Howard Lake-Waverly HS) had eight kills and two blocks (one solo).

Bethel jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first game and held on, as Augsburg trimmed the lead to three points late in the game. As a team, Bethel hit .276 in the first game, with Glesne scoring seven kills and Otto scoring six.

Augsburg took a 10-5 lead in the second game, but Bethel used an 11-4 scoring run to take the lead, and used a 7-1 to score the victory. Otto had six kills and hit .750 in the second game.

A 10-3 scoring run put the Royals up 19-13 in the final game, with Augsburg only able to cut the lead to four points late. Eakins led the Royals with five kills in the third game, wtih Moehring and Otto claiming four each.

Katie Snyder (Jr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had 46 assists and 17 digs for the Royals, while libero Kayla Smith (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) had 23 digs. Stephanie Rajchel (Sr., Wausau, Wis.) added 13 digs.

Augsburg libero Tina Quick (Fr., Blaine, Minn./Centennial HS) had 18 digs, with Haley Bower (Fr., Brainerd, Minn.) adding 13. Alexis Johnson (Jr., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) had 38 assists and 14 digs.

Both teams are in nonconference action on Saturday (10/23). Augsburg hosts Martin Luther at 5 p.m., with Bethel playing at South Dakota State at 7 p.m.
