Augsburg volleyball team in Brazil -- Day 3 (5/7/08)

By Dani Boner (JR, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) and Denielle Johnson (FY, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS)
We began our day by going to the beach in the morning and watching some pro beach volleyball players. Then we conquered our fear of heights by taking cable cars to Sugar Loaf Mountain. We got some amazing pictures of the gorgeous landscape, the beautiful city, and the cute wild monkeys in the trees. We went back to the beach to eat lunch at TGI Fridays. However, this was no normal TGI Fridays. It was stand or a kiosk where they prepared all of the food underground. They had some very different customs!

Next, we got some rest and headed to our game. We played Brazil's best national club team. They were very good and they were state champions! It was a great experience and made us realize that we should be thankful for our nice balls and facilities. Unfortunately, we did not play as well as we wanted and lost four games to them.

We then got ready for our dinner at the steakhouse. It was not the normal steakhouse, though. The servers walked around with different kinds of meats and cut off pieces onto your plate. They had everything from steak to shark meat. A few of us even tried a chicken heart ... it was very different. We are happy to say that Julie met her husband. He proposed in Portuguese to marry her. So overall it was an amazing day for all of us.
